Dance Theatre of Harlem Comes to the Kentucky Center, 10/20

With a much anticipated return to the stage after an 8-year hiatus, the Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) performs its first public performance at The Kentucky Center and hosts the world-premiere of Gloria, a one-act ballet choreographed by Robert Garland with music by Francis Poulenc.

Jacob's Pillow Dance, home of America's longest-running international dance festival, has enjoyed a long history with Dance Theatre of Harlem. Founded to create opportunities for minority dancers at a time when they were not welcome in established classical companies, Dance Theatre of Harlem made its first professional appearances at the Pillow in 1970, the same year the company was launched.

Jacob's Pillow announces its 2010 full season calendar, including more than 200 free performances, talks, photography exhibits, tours, and events. Free event highlights include the Blake's Barn exhibit Lois Greenfield: Imagined Moments, featuring Greenfield's signature dance photography, and 'Let's Dance!' a new community event on July 4 with free dance classes and workshops for teens and adults. PillowTalks, held Thursdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 4pm, include Virginia Johnson, recently named Artistic Director of Dance Theatre of Harlem (June 24), choreographer/director Bill T. Jones (July 22), and the return of Pulitzer Prize winner Jules Feiffer (July 31). Inside/Out performance highlights include the all-female hip-hop group Decadancetheatre (July 7), the dancers of The School at Jacob's Pillow's first ever Tap Program (July 10), alumnus of The School at Jacob's Pillow and Artistic Director of his own ensemble, Avi Scher (July 23), and ¡Flamenco Revolución! (August 27).

EFSD Announces Annual Benefit Concert On 2/28, 3/1

The Emergency Fund for Student Dancers (EFSD) announces our annual benefit concerts by advanced students of its member schools - The Ailey? School, Merce Cunningham Studio, Dance Theatre of Harlem School, Lim?n Institute, Houston Ballet, and Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. The concert is on Saturday, February 28 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, March 1, 2008 at 3:00 PM at the Dance Theatre of Harlem School, 466 West 152nd Street (between Amsterdam and St. Nicholas Avenues). This annual event called by The New York Times 'one of the happiest dance rituals in town,' brings together the best of the professional studio schools in New York and provides a rare opportunity to see a broad range of dance technique and choreographic variety in a single evening, while raising money to provide emergency support to these same students as they train for professional dance careers. The concerts feature original work by legendary choreographers and respected faculty from member schools. Among the featured works are: Diversion of Angels by Martha Graham, performed by the Martha Graham Ensemble; an excerpt from Joplin Dances by Robert Garland, Lowell Smith's Fragments, and Peter Pucci's Episode, performed by the Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble; MinEvent by Merce Cunningham, staged by Robert Swinston, performed by the Cunningham Repertory Group; an excerpt from A Choreographic Offering by Jose Lim?n, directed by Roxanne D'Orleans-Juste, performed by Professional Studies Program students of the Lim?n Institute; and 4 YOU, by Pedro Ruiz danced by the Ailey/Fordham Student Dancers of The Ailey School. Program is subject to change.
