Artistic Director Molly Smith announces D.C.-area based playwright John Strand will join Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater for a yearlong playwright residency as part of the American Voices New Play Institute, effective this month through June 2015. Through the residency Strand will receive a salary; health benefits; a budget to be used at his discretion to cover collaborator fees, workshop costs and research expenses to support his new play development process; and a commitment from Arena Stage to produce a new work in a future season and to continue cultivating an ongoing, long-term relationship.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater's Artistic Director Molly Smith announces that theater artist Robert Barry Fleming has joined the company as Director of Artistic Programming as of April 2014. Fleming has worked extensively with theaters across the country as a director, writer, choreographer, producer and performer and has held positions at the University of San Diego and the University of Memphis. He returns to Arena Stage following his previous collaboration with Smith as assistant director for The Music Man.

In conjunction with William Anastasi: Sound Work, 1963-2013 the Hunter College Art Galleries will present an evening devoted to sound-based art. The evening's program will feature a panel discussion dedicated to an engagement with the broad theories and practice of sound based art. The panelists include curator and critic Robert Storr, Barbara London, former Associate Curator in the Department of Media and Performance Art at The Museum of Modern Art, artist Robert Barry, and artist Stephen Vitiello and will be moderated by Max Weintraub, exhibition curator and Assistant Visiting Professor at Hunter College. The evening will close with a conversation between William Anastasi and art historian Charles Stuckey.

Paul Jost, the singer/multi-talented musician who has a long history performing in Atlantic City, has been selected to perform every Wednesday, all summer long from June 26 through September 18. The Museum of Modern Art has appointed David Platzker as a Curator in the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books, Glenn D. Lowry, Director of The Museum of Modern Art, announced today. Platzker, widely known for his expertise in artists' books, multiples, and ephemera of the post-1960 period, will work closely with Chief Curator Christophe Cherix, participating in the curatorial program, including exhibitions, special projects, and acquisition initiatives.
