Dance Against Cancer raised more than $200,000 for the American Cancer Society on Monday, May 5, 2014. Proceeds from the evening will benefit research initiatives and patient and family service programs. More than 500 guests attended the fourth annual Dance Against Cancer. VIP guests enjoyed cocktails, preferred seating, and a gift bag in addition to the performance and post-event reception. The performance featured new work by Brian Reeder created for American Ballet Theatre's Isabella Boylston with New York City Ballet's Chase Finlay and Amar Ramasar, Paul Taylor Dance Company in its first appearance at the benefit, Charles 'Lil Buck' Riley performed with students from National Dance Institute, and included the NYC premiere of Justin Peck's Sea Change. The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced tonight the complete list of winners for the 2012-13 season. The Bessies, produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, were held at the legendary Apollo Theater at 8:00 p.m., following red carpet interviews and photographs with the nominees in attendance. Former Cunningham dancer Gus Solomons jr. and former American Ballet Theatre principal Martine Van Hamel co-hosted the evening and also performed Paul Taylor's rarely seen 1957 Duet as part of the evening's performances.

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis joined Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in live musical performances highlighting the works of legendary composers, Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie. The Company's remarkable artistry brought these spellbinding sounds to life in Alvin Ailey's renowned work, Three Black Kings and the captivating ballet, The Winter In Lisbon by Billy Wilson. The week's performances also included repertory favorites such as Artistic Director Designate, Robert Battle's In/Side and works by Ulysses Dove and Hans van Manen.
