26th Annual Herb Alpert Award In The Arts Recipients Announced

The Herb Alpert Foundation and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) have awarded the 2020 Herb Alpert Award in the Arts (HAAIA) to five exceptional mid-career artists. Now in its 26th year, the annual award provides five unrestricted $75,000 grants to independent artists working in the fields of dance, film/video, music, theatre and visual arts. The recipients will be honored at a virtual ceremony hosted by Herb Alpert, his wife Lani Hall Alpert and the Herb Alpert Foundation on Friday, May 22, 2020.

651 ARTS Announces Its First 2020 Programs For January

The cutting-edge, Brooklyn-based cultural arts institution 651ARTS will present a repertory of two works-in-development at the top of the year with  3 RITES: Liberty by DELIRIOUS Dances and its Director- acclaimed multi-media artist Edisa Weeks - and (Re)current Unrest by renowned choreographer Charles O. Anderson and his dance theatre X company from January 8 -January 11 at the Kumble Theater in Brooklyn. Marking the institution's first programs of 2020, both of these uniquely dynamic movement pieces are solo works with Anderson's work to include post-show discussions.

Leading Brooklyn Arts Institution 651 Arts Announces New Executive Director

651 ARTS, Brooklyn's premier organization for the African Diasporic arts, today announced the appointment of seasoned nonprofit arts leader David J. Roberts as the renowned institution's new Executive Director. The selection of Roberts follows an extensive nationwide search led by cultural consulting firm CJAM Consulting, LLC and 651's Board of Directors. Roberts, who succeeds former Executive Director Shay Wafer, will report to the Board of Directors and will officially assume the role in August, 2019. 

651 ARTS Presents EXCUSE ME, HELLO

As part of this year's NYC Pride, Brooklyn's leading organization for the Diasporic Arts, 651 ARTS, is proud to present dynamic entertainer and performance artist Andre J. with their first major presentation, Excuse Me, Hello, a site-specific theatrical installation that celebrates the reinvention of the human spirit through fashion, fun and music. The presentation will have its debut at The Plaza at 300 Ashland on Friday, June 28th as part of a free, outdoor celebration in collaboration with the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership before being presented during BAM's Everybooty, one of Brooklyn's most iconic Pride Week parties, at the BAM's Fisher the next day on Saturday, June 29th.

Renowned Black Arts Institution 651 ARTS Returns With Exciting New Dance Presentation

Following the recent announcement of its institutional expansion and revitalization, renowned Brooklyn-based organization 651 ARTS is proud to present the first work in development under its inaugural Creative Director Raelle Myrick-Hodges with Antonio Brown Dance's (ABD) innovative new work Boxed: A Game of Winning & Losing. Part of the organization's Spring 2019 season, Boxed is a work-in-progress created by the emerging and dynamic dance company Antonio Brown Dance led by Artistic Director Antonio Brown - former dancer with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance who went on to form ABD in 2013- and will premiere on May 23rd through May 25th for three performances at the Center for Performance Research in Brooklyn, NY.

The Ford Theatres today announced the 2019 season of events at the John Anson Ford Theatres. The 2019 season will open on Saturday, April 27 with The Spring Quartet: Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano, Esperanza Spalding and Leo Genovese, who The Arts Desk described as "an expansive, freewheeling rampage, ideas flying out like sparks from a roaring fire," and will conclude on October 19 and 20 with a Dia de los Muertos Concert and Community Celebration. These bookend performances are both part of the third season of the IGNITE @ the FORD! series. Tickets can be purchased at FordTheatres.org or by calling (323) 461-3673.
