Shepperd, is thrilled to announce that the first show in its 2017-2018 season, the critically acclaimed hit musical, The View UpStairs, book, music and lyrics by Max Vernon, choreography by Cate Caplin, musical direction by Jake Anthony and directed by Michael A. Shepperd is extending through Sunday, November 12 at Celebration Theatre @ the Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave. in Los Angeles.

The west coast premiere of THE VIEW UPSTAIRS bursts with a high-energied hodge-podge of some great vocals, charming performances and wonderfully executed choreography. Playwright Max Vernon, through the eyes of a present-day electronically dependent fashion designer, retells the stories of victims of a fire by arson at the gay bar UpStairs Lounge in New Orleans back in June of 1973.

I love a good prequel, especially when a contemporary playwright decides to take on the back story of a hallowed play by the likes of William Shakespeare. I mean, come on. Daring to tread on that playing field takes some guts because you know before you begin that audiences are going to have high expectations of your work. They also know where you need to end your story in order for Shakespeare's to begin so getting there must be highly inventive and worthy of its foregone conclusion.

Dreamland, a new musical conceived, written, composed by 14-time Emmy Award winner John Francis Smith with daughter Asia Ray Smith, will have its first ever "off-book" staged performances at the NoHo Arts Center Friday, June 17 at 8:00 pm; and Saturday, June 18 at 2:00 and 8:00 pm. The production is also produced by Smith. Robert Arnold directs, with musical direction by Christian Regul and Jake Anthony (who also serves as vocal director).
