Dutoit Leads Philly Orchestra For Three Concerts 3/12-14

Philadelphia Orchestra Chief Conductor and Artistic Adviser Charles Dutoit leads the Orchestra in three concerts in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center celebrating the influence of African-American culture on classical music (March 12-14). The program features Milhaud's jazz-inspired The Creation of the World; George Walker's 1996 Pulitzer Prize-winning work Lilacs for voice and orchestra, with tenor Russell Thomas as soloist in its first Philadelphia Orchestra performances; Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer, a work for which the late, great contralto Marian Anderson was known, with Philadelphia-native bass-baritone Eric Owens as soloist; and Dvoř?k's Symphony No. 9 in E minor ('From the New World').

'THE TRUMPET OF THE SWAN' Debuts at Kennedy Center 12/4

The Kennedy Center presents the world premiere of The Trumpet of the Swan: A Novel Symphony based on the book by E.B. White, adapted for the stage by Marsha Norman, with music by Jason Robert Brown, and direction by Gary Griffin. The production features a 35-piece orchestra conducted by Jason Robert Brown. Trumpet of the Swan: A Novel Symphony is part of a season-long initiative Broadway: The Third Generation, celebrating the current generation of Broadway musical composers, and will appear for five performances in the Eisenhower Theater December 4-6, 2008. The theatrical adaptation is recommended for audiences aged seven and up.

Kennedy Center to Present Richard Thomas in 'Blanche and Beyond'

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas in Blanche and Beyond September 24-26, 2008 in the Terrace Theater. The one-man show is adapted and directed by Steve Lawson from the correspondences of Tennessee Williams between 1945 and 1957, and is a sequel to A Distant Country Called Youth, staged during the Center's Tennessee Williams Explored festival in 2004. This production is part of Prelude 2008: Arts Across America. Language and content for Blanche and Beyond is intended for mature ages, high-school age and above.

The White Horse Theater Company, known for acclaimed productions of plays by Sam Shepard and Tennessee Williams, will present a limited engagement of Small Craft Warnings by Tennessee Williams. Performances will run from September 19th -October 5th, 2008 in a limited engagement at The Workshop Theater Company (Main Stage Theater), located at 312 West 36th Street (4th Floor) between 8th & 9th Avenues in NYC. Performances run Tuesdays-Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm with an additional performance on Saturday, October 4th at 2pm.
