Acclaimed vocalist and actress, Karen Akers, returns to Birdland with her popular show, WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE, on May 27.

The World Premiere of 5 & Dime, a new musical based on the classic play Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, will be produced by Tony Award recipient theatre company TheatreWorks Silicon Valley.

Not long ago, venues across the country were selling out houses and packing in crowds- and it wasn't for plays, musicals, or concerts as we know them today. On February 9, 1984, The Rink opened at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre), where it ran for 29 previews and 204 regular performances.

Birdland recently presented singer/actress Karen Akers at the iconic club on Monday, November 20. The show, titled “Water Under The Bridge,” was directed by Sara Louise Lazarus, musical directed by Alex Rybeck, with Tom Hubbard on bass. Check out photos here!

Arthur Miller’s Masterpiece The Crucible is a 1953 play that is both dramatized and fictionalized around the true events of the Salem Witch Trials between 1692-93. Written as a Political Allegory on McCarthyism, Miller used its dramatizations to detail a time in which the United States Government persecuted people who were accused of being a part of the Communist Party. The Crucible was first performed on January 22, 1953 at the Martin Beck Theatre on Broadway. The original production featured performances from E.G. Marshall, Beatrice Straight, and Madeline Sherwood. Though the play was widely criticized often through hostile remarks, Miller’s play went on to win the Tony Award for Best Play of 1953. A year later, a remounted production was performed and in its wake, the play became a classic. Later esteemed as a central piece in the Canon of American Drama, and regarded as one of Miller’s finest works.
