HOWL! Arts Project Begins Month-long Series at Theatre 80 9/10-12

HOWL! Arts Project and The Actors Fund present HOWL! ARTS PROJECT 2010, a month-long series of theater, performance art, music, poetry, film, entertainment for and by kids, and much more at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place). Proceeds benefit HOWL! HELP, an emergency services assistance and health fund for eligible and qualifying East Village artists, administered by The Actors Fund.

Director and choreographer Lisa Brailoff's revival of this timely, controversial musical about greed, corruption and the plight of the worker -- presented initially this past February by Downtown Music Productions, East Village Concert Series and St. Mark's Church in the Bowery -- returns for four performances as part of HOWL! Birdseed is the tale of two young children who, living with their ailing Grandfather in the tenement district of a big city, find solace in a small garden they have grown and nurtured themselves in an empty lot. It is a place where they can find happiness. It is only when their garden has been condemned by the city, that they learn how dreams can really exist. The garden brings them greater understanding of life itself, friendships and the true meaning of miracles. This 'miracle on 44th Street' is a musical for children and grownups alike. Cast: Katt Alexander, Dante Orlando Brown, Christina Boas, Priscilla Holbrook, Tina Jetter, Adam Kaufman, Sherelle Moore, Mark Singer, Brennan Spector, Lacey Upton, and Otto Walberg.

The first funny feminist musical revue for men and women, THE HOUSEWIVES' CANTATA uses a cabaret style ? la 'Jacques Brel...' to tell the story of three women, one of whom goes from housewife to becoming the first woman President of the United States. Songs featured in the revue include 'What is a woman?,' 'Dirty dish rag,' 'Guinevere among the grapefruit peels,' 'Adultery waltz' and 'Divorce lament.' The Off-Broadway production produced by Cheryl Crawford was praised as 'A sprightly songfest' by The New York Times.
