Chicago Humanities Festival is hosting an all-star line-up of speakers this spring season, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, legendary screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, musicians Tori Amos and Makaya McCraven, and groundbreaking filmmaker Miranda July all coming together around CHF's annual theme, a?oeVision,a?? exploring how a shifting global perspective could push us all toward a better world.

For the delight of audiences aged 5 to 105, Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., will present Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre (CAMT) in 'A Christmas Carol, Oy! Hanukkah, Merry Kwanzaa' from December 19 to January 5.  The show is an adaptation of Dickens' classic with Old World accents and New World inclusiveness. Adapted, directed and reinvented by Vit Horejs, it features over 30 puppets by Milos Kasal including a quartet of Rockettes in Slovak, Moravian and Ruthenian folk costumes and holiday songs in Czech, English, Hebrew, Slovak, Spanish and Swahili.

Allen to commemorate the 150thanniversary of the country's first African-American high school (Dunbar in the district,) plus two short Family a?oeDoggya?? Operas by composers Nick Benavides and Dawn Avery, Pepitoand Georgia and Bo.

Today, June 28, at 9 a.m., a special public ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in celebration of the official opening of the Linde Center for Music and Learning-a major new four-building complex, summer home to the Tanglewood Learning Institute, Tanglewood's first new programming initiative in decades, also launching this summer as part of the 2019 Tanglewood season, June 15-September 1. One of the most anticipated events of the 2019 music season. the event featured speeches from a cross-section of the administration, builders, and funders who made the new complex and programming initiatives possible.  Further details are available at www.tli.org. 

The Stamford Symphony presents One Singular Sensation - Marvin Hamlisch 75 on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at The Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT 06901. The Gala Benefit is the only official 75th birthday celebration and will be hosted by Terre Blair-Hamlisch. This special evening will celebrate the genius of the legendary composer.

The Martha Graham Dance Company began with its Executive Director, LaRue Allen, explaining the dances for that evening. In an era focused on making dance more accessible to a wider audience beyond New York, this was especially welcome.

Shakespeare's Globe is delighted to announce its upcoming programme of events to mark Refugee Week, taking place between 17 and 23 June 2019. Joining the UK-wide celebration of the contribution of refugees to our national community, the Globe will invite refugee artists, performers and audiences to come together and share their own stories of migration and belonging.

Bassist/Composer Billy Mohler returns his Focus to jazz after a successful career in rock, pop and R&B production and songwriting. Mohler's leader debut Focus is due out this March via Make Records, featuring a stellar chordless quartet with Shane Endsleyand Nate Wood of Kneebody and Chris Speed of a MULTITUDE of ensembles. 

NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment's Wilshire Studios will develop a TV series based on the popular NPR radio show/podcastWait Wait...Don't Tell Me!, according to Deadline. Wilshire will team up with Storied Media to develop the series.

Linda Lavin will guest star in the season five premiere of Madam Secretary, which airs on Oct 7. Lavin will play June, a veteran White House staffer, who used to be Russell Jackson's (Zeljko Ivankek) most trusted aide. She steps out of retirement for a couple of weeks when her hand-picked successor goes on vacation, and she's a maddeningly sharp, maddeningly quick woman who's expert at summarizing a situation 'fairly' -- until a minute later when you finally feel that stiletto going in your side. The world's largest free jazz festival kicks off this weekend, and Detroit Public Television for the first time will be broadcasting live from the Detroit Jazz Festival in a 90-minute program hosted by our own Fred Nahhat and Jazz Fest President Chris Collins.

CBS announced today that former secretaries of state Madeleine Albright, Hillary Clinton and General Colin Powell will guest star in the fifth season premiere of MADAM SECRETARY to be broadcast Sunday, Oct. 7 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. They filmed their scenes on Wednesday, July 11, during the first week of production of the critically acclaimed series' upcoming season.
