Register for Italian Language Class in the Fall Now and Save

Registration for the fall semester of Italian language classes at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum is now open. The 12-week semester begins September 15, with 90-minute classes offered weekdays, weekends and evenings to accommodate most schedules, for students of all levels of proficiency. Weekday classes will be taught by Rose Frisari on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, weekend classes will be taught by Professor Louis Leonini on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and evening classes will be taught by Maria Bonavita on Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes are limited to a maximum of 20 students and minimum of 10. Tuition is $165 for non-members and $150 for museum members and must be paid in advance.

On Sunday, October 20 at 2 p.m., Louis Barrella, Louis Leonini and Snjezana Smodlaka will present "Giuseppe Verdi: Celebrating the Man, His Music and Times," at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum. This DVD presentation will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Verdi's birth on October 10, 1813.

After auditioning performers in New York City, Los Angeles and Sacramento, California Musical Theatre Artistic Director Glenn Casale has announced casting for the 63rd Music Circus season, including Broadway veterans, Tony nominees and audience favorites from previous Music Circus seasons. The five-show season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion includes The Wizard of Oz, Show Boat, Sugar, The King and I and the Music Circus premiere of Chicago.

He will be tracing popular folksongs of various Italian regions that are still heard today, as well as classic songs and singers from the two large waves of Italian immigration-1880-1924, and the mid-1950s.
