Christine Andreas, Emily Skinner & More Set for BROADWAY MUSICALS OF 1961, 3/11

Two-time Tony Nominee Christine Andreas, Tony Nominee Emily Skinner, Drama Desk Nominees Kerry O'Malley and Jeffry Denman, and two-time Nightlife Award Winner Scott Coulter will star in The Broadway Musicals of 1961 at Town Hall on Monday, March 11th at 8 PM. The critically-acclaimed new Broadway by the Year Chorus will join them in performing songs from Carnival, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Subways Are For Sleeping, Sail Away, Milk and Honey, and more! The concert will be directed and choreographed by Jeffry Denman; the Broadway by the Year Chorus is under the direction of Scott Coulter; musical direction will be by Ross Patterson. The show, as always, will be written and hosted by series creator Scott Siegel.

Thomas Hampson to Make Met Debut as Verdi's Iago in OTELLO, March 11; Announces 2013 US Engagements

This spring, Thomas Hampson's U.S. engagements take him from opera house to concert and recital hall, and from Verdi and Mahler to the latest in contemporary American composition. The baritone makes his company role debut as Iago in Otello at the Metropolitan Opera (March 11) and premieres new chamber works by Michael Hersch (Feb 26) and Mark Adamo (April 24), before touring the latter to the Boston Celebrity Series (April 26) and New York's Lincoln Center (April 28). Besides singing songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the Indianapolis Symphony (Feb 22-23), his orchestral collaborations also take him back to Europe to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in a star-studded gala benefit (April 10) and reprise the title role of Simon Boccanegra with the Vienna Symphony, in a concert performance that will be recorded for future album release (April 13 & 17).

On the 203rd anniversary of Lincoln's birth, the Metropolitan Museum presents a special performance of 'Lincoln Seen and Heard,' a program that has been performed at the White House, Ford's Theatre, the George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton Presidential Libraries, and other venues. Actor Stephen Lang (Avatar, Terra Nova, A Few Good Men) reads the words of Lincoln, as the Metropolitan Museum's Harold Holzer, an award-winning Lincoln scholar, narrates and illustrates with Lincoln photographs. Lincoln was frequently photographed at precisely the time of his most important speeches, and this program combines his words and pictures to evoke the real Lincoln-from his days as prairie politician to the presidency and immortality.

Tonight, November 30, The Metropolitan Museum of Art will offer a live webcast of the first of five performances of an updated version of the 16th-century Chinese Kunqu opera masterpiece Peony Pavilion that will take place in the Met's Astor Court, the courtyard modeled on a 17th-century Chinese garden. This 70-minute version of the opera has been developed and directed by celebrated composer Tan Dun, with a new score by Mr. Tan and choreography by Huang Doudou, one of China's most prominent dancers. It will be performed by Zhang Jun, one of China's most respected Kunqu performers, and the Shanghai Zhang Jun Art Center Company.

Ravinia Festival today presented a "sneak peek" at its 2013 classical music concert season, which includes a performance of Vaughan Williams's Serenade to Music in celebration of the 25th th anniversary of Ravinia's Steans Music Institute, performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and vocalists from the festival's summer conservatory along with Itzhak Perlman on the same program; the return of pianist Lang Lang to the gala stage that launched him to superstardom; a commemoration of Verdi's bicentennial with Ravinia Festival Music Director James Conlon conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a complete concert performance of Aida, this year's One Score, One Chicago selection; and the CSO performing Howard Shore's score to The Lord of the Rings-The Two Towers, while the entire film is broadcast on video screens in the pavilion and on the lawn-this has been the most requested CSO concert at Ravinia in decades, following the popularity of the trilogy's first film in concert here two summers ago.
