BWW Review: ATLANTIS at Virginia Repertory Theatre

Virginia Repertory Theatre should be applauded for its effort to produce new works in Richmond. If its critically-acclaimed productions of David L. Robbins' The End of War and last year's River Ditty were giant steps toward elevating the status of Central Virginia's premier regional theatre, then its unbaked 'developmental' production of Atlantis, produced in partnership with Greg Schaffert and Glass Half Full Productions, is something of a misstep.
ALADDIN, CATS, and More are Coming to a Screen Near You in BWW's April Stage-to-Screen Report

This last month came with a lot of new stage to screen news and we're here to catch you up on all of it! The film adaptation everyone is talking about, CATS, just recently wrapped production! The cast and crew also made an appearance at CinemaCon, where Jennifer Hudson sang 'Memory.' CinemaCon also shed light on the upcoming Disney live-action adaptations of both ALADDIN and THE LION KING! And just a few weeks ago, a new trailer was released for ALADDIN. It was recently announced, too, that a film remake of GUYS AND DOLLS is in the works!

'A crisis is a terrible thing to waste,' says Paul Rober, Stanford Economist. I doubt he had Maddie Corman in mind, but his statement certainly applies to her one woman show 'Accidentally Brave.' Written and performed by Ms. Corman, this story is something no one would ever want to experience. She doesn't waste a truly horrific crisis by any means!

Once Upon a One More Time, a new Broadway-bound musical comedy set to the smash hit music of Grammy Award-winning superstar Britney Spears, will have its world premiere this fall at Broadway In Chicago's James M. Nederlander Theatre (24 W. Randolph Street). Previews begin Tuesday, October 29, 2019, with an opening night of November 13, 2019, for its limited engagement through December 1, 2019, before heading to Broadway.

Daryl Roth presents the world premiere of Accidentally Brave, written by and starring Maddie Corman(Appropriate, Next Fall), which opened Off-Broadway last night, March 25, 2019 at DR2 Theatre in Union Square. The play is directed by Tony Award Nominee Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages, bare). Previews began on Monday, March 11 for the production's limited engagement through Sunday, July 14. at the DR2 Theatre (103 E. 15th St, NYC).

Off-Broadway's The New Group will honor Edie Falco and Serge Nivelle at the company's Annual Gala on Monday, March 11 at Tribeca Rooftop (2 Desbrosses Street between Hudson & Greenwich). The event will feature a performance by Brandon Victor Dixon and appearances by Peter Dinklage, Warren Leight, Erica Schmidt and Tarik Trotter. February was full of stage to screen news and we're here to catch you up on all of it! In the biggest news of the month, it has just been confirmed that Glenn Close will star in a Rob Ashford-directed film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, which is set to begin shooting this October! It was also announced that a film adaptation of One Man, Two Guvnors is on the way. Both Lion King and Aladdin released new TV spots and Idris Elba talked about the upcoming Cats film!

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Atlantis: A New Musical on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the November Theatre/Arenstein Stage, 114 West Broad Street. The show will run through Sunday, May 5, 2019. Previews will be on Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11, 2019.
