BWW Review: ESCAPED ALONE, Royal Court

A year after its first run, Caryl Churchill's Escaped Alone returns to the Royal Court Theatre.
This rather strange play is split between garden chit-chat and apocalyptic horrors, though directly juxtaposing or linking Churchill's two worlds seems naively simplistic. Its dual settings do lead to an odd overall effect; while individual moments shine, the piece as a whole seems stilted.

Laurie Slade's acclaimed new version of August Strindberg's The Father is to be given its London premiere at Trafalgar Studios this March. Jagged Fence Productions in association with Making Productions will present the play, for which casting is also announced today. Directed by Abbey Wright, former Resident Assistant Director at the Donmar Warehouse, Slade's contemporary adaptation of Strindberg's masterpiece will star Alex Ferns as the Captain. Tickets are on sale now.

The Michael Grandage Company production of The Cripple of Inishmaan, by Martin McDonagh, starring Daniel Radcliffe and the critically acclaimed West End cast, directed by Tony Award winner Michael Grandage, ends its Broadway run today after 97 performances. The Cripple of Inishmaan originally opened on April 20 at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street).
