Marin Alsop leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in the BSO premiere of Shostakovich: Notes for Stalin, a Symphonic Play by Playwright in Residence Didi Balle. This special Off the Cuff performance tonight, November 14 at 8:15 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore and Saturday, November 15 at 7 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall dramatizes Shostakovich's harrowing life during Stalin's murderous reign in 1930s Russia, and features actors Jered McLenigan, Richard Poe and Tony Tsendeas. Music Director Marin Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 tonight, November 13 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Sunday, November 16 at 3 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. Also on the program are Tchaikovsky's tone poem Marche slave and Rachmaninoff's virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 1, performed by Boris Giltburg, winner of the 2013 Queen Elisabeth Competition.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces the annual Rusty Musicians onWednesday, December 17 at 6:30 p.m. (Group 1) and 7:50 p.m. (Group 2) at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. This event gives non-professional instrumental musicians the ability to play side-by-side with a world-class orchestra. Under the direction of BSO Assistant Conductor Nicholas Hersh, un-auditioned string, brass, wind and percussion instrumentalists will participate in reading sessions of selections from Rimsky-Korsakov's "Polonaise" from Christmas Eve and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1 ("Winter Dreams") and The Nutcracker. The cost for each participant is $90 for past participants and $65 for new participants; attendance to the concert event is free and open to the public. Please see below for complete program details.

The community is invited to observe Music Director Marin Alsop as she leads the orchestra in rehearsal of Strauss's tone poem, Ein Heldenleben: A Hero's Life. This unique opportunity is offered through the BSO's participation in Free Fall Baltimore, a citywide initiative which aims to expose the community to the area's plentiful and diverse arts scene.
