August 13-16 is the 11th season for The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival. These are extraordinary times and it has given rise to creative solutions from artists. There will be fewer shows and all will either take place outside, streamed indoor or both.

Orlando Shakes in partnership with UCF's building may be closed but that hasn't stopped its creative reinvention of how the show must go on. Each week, actors from past productions are featured in 'throwback' videos on the company's Facebook page. Actors are submitting their own fresh takes of their previous performances from living rooms and backyards following stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic. The series of videos are a peek into the life of an actor while the country is on lockdown and a celebration of the undaunted spirit of the artist.

On October 15 at 2:00 pm in the 2nd floor concert hall of Langston Hughes Library and Cultural Center at 100-01 Northern Blvd., Corona, musician and bandleader Carol Sudhalter will lead the Astoria Big Band in a concert of music composed by women, with arrangements written by both men and women, including band member and prominent arranger Christopher Rinaman. The show highlights the works of a variety of women from Billie Holiday to saxophonist Ada Rovatti and many more. This unique presentation will offer many delightful surprises to the audience. The vocalist is Marti Mabin, well-known for her powerful rendition of Horace Silver's tune 'PEACE'.

California Shakespeare Theater today announced details for the company's 19th annual fundraising bash, Raise the Roof, to be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 6pm at the Four Seasons San Francisco. The evening, celebrating the company's 40th anniversary and featuring honorary chairperson Annette Bening, who appeared in several Cal Shakes productions in the early years of the company, will support Cal Shakes' work on stage, in classrooms, and with Bay Area communities.
