Cape Rep Theatre presents Summer Starlight, an evening to remember, Sunday, August 6, with guest of honor, Tony Award winning theatre, film and television actor, Michael Cerveris. Tickets for this gala celebration benefiting Cape Rep Theatre include an outdoor party with hors d'oeuvres and live jazz, a performance and audience discussion with Mr. Cerveris in the Indoor Theater emceed by filmmaker Amber Edwards, and a champagne and dessert finale with Michael Cerveris under the stars.  Sunday, August 6, 6 PM. Cape Rep Theatre's 32nd season opens with the Cape Cod Premier of Richard Nelson's Regular Singing. 

Cape Rep Theatre is celebrating its 32nd season with an exciting line up of plays and musicals, all of them Cape Cod premieres, one fresh from New York. The Indoor Theater season will open with Richard Nelson's Regular Singing, followed by Jaclyn Backhaus' ingenious comedy, Men On Boats.

Cape Rep Theatre will soon present the Cape Cod premiere of Peter and the Starcatcher by Rick Elice, based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, with music by Wayne Barker, November 3 through December 4: Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm, with an additional 2 pm matinee on Saturday, November 26. There are no performances on November 6, 9, 23 or 24.  Tickets are $35.  Pay-What-You-Can-Night is the first Friday, November 4. With a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman and now directed by Scott Ripley, Cape Rep's production of Hairspray: The Broadway Musical has already imaginably caused quite the stir since its opening on Wednesday. This musical has a little bit of everything that creates a whole lot of joy that will have audiences dancing on their feet even after the show has ended. From the diverse styles (and sheer amount) of dance to an eclectic bunch of characters and costumes that would make any other production of this musical turn green with envy, to the unbelievable talent of the cast and crew and the show's happy ending such a controversial topic as race segregation can bring forth, others aside from myself will assuredly be find themselves wearing a constant smile on their faces throughout.

With a book by Harvey Fierstein, music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and under the direction of Maura Hanlon (who must also be recognized and praised for her work on this summer's Failure: A Love Story), Cape Rep's of La Cage Aux Folles allows audiences the privilege of understanding why the original Broadway production of Fierstein's epic musical was the winner of six Tony's, and why this theater group's ambition to present fantastic pieces of theater and risk in undertaking such a challenging (and costly!) show has once again proven that the conclusion of its 30th Anniversary season is just as impressive and praise-worthy as its start. Not only do the costumes and choreography provide the glitz and gleam that essentially describes the very core of this show, but the actors themselves provide a tangible "spunk" to this production that demands itself to be released amongst sometimes unsuspecting audience members. Having been the first time I have seen this show myself and not knowing more than a simple synopsis of what was to come, I am elated that Cape Rep has shown me the beauty there is to be found in a musical that not only demands the acceptance of human individuality through an engaging and catchy score, but also proves that men can look and dance like a million bucks in a tight dress and pair of heels.
