For the first time in New Orleans, Le Petit produces the Tony award-winning musical that tells the true story of Ferdinand Joseph LeMothe, a.k.a. Jelly Roll Morton. Born a Creole American in the Faubourg Marigny, Jelly Roll Morton took the music he found in the cribs of Storyville out into the wide world. He became a star in Harlem, Chicago, and Los Angeles, going so far as to proclaim himself as the 'creator of jazz.' Featuring explosive dance and an original score inspired by the best musical traditions of New Orleans, Jelly's Last Jam is the musical triumph that won't give you the blues.

After 22 years in NYC, actor Dennis Dannel, Jr. will come home to New Orleans this summer, to perform in Jackie Alexander's play, 'The High Priestess of Dark Alley,' July 7th - 24th at the historic Le Petit Theatre playhouse (celebrating 100 years). With over 15 years of NYC training, having acted in over 40 shows on the NY Stage, as well as TV, Film and Soap Opera credits, pretty much everyone who knows Dennis, knows he's an actor. What most don't know, however, is that Dennis is also an accomplished fine artist.

The North Carolina Black Repertory Company announces its 2016- 2017 Season, The Comfort of Faith. As their award-winning theatre home in Bed-Stuy's Restoration Plaza undergoes a multi-million dollar facelift, The Billie Holiday Theatre (BHT) has announced a move that will bring their acclaimed productions to Brooklyn's flourishing Downtown Cultural District. Thanks to a special partnership with the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse, BHT will kick off a two-year residency with a high profile run of the play Brothers from the Bottom, starring actor and TONY Award-winning producer Wendell Pierce (SELMA, Treme, The Wire). The play, written and directed by BHT artistic director Jackie Alexander, will run tonight, March 6th - 29th at the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse, 126 Saint Felix Street between Hanson and Lafayette, in the heart of the BAM Cultural District.

So .... this is sort of a 'mash-up' of mediums and a fun 'take' on a traditional Hanukkah song, bolstered by the additional creative forces of Trey Parker and Marc Shaiman. It also boasts the talents of Harvey Fierstein, Jackie Hoffman, Peter Matthew Smith, Shoshana Bean, Clarke Thorell, Jenn Gambatese, Michael Longoria, Rashad Naylor, Tracy Jai Edwards, Chester Gregory II, Dick Latessa and others from the Broadway cast of HAIRSPRAY. The year was 2003, and HAIRSPRAY, pretty much, owned Broadway.

October 8, 2014 - The Billie Holiday Theatre's Executive Director Marjorie Moon announces the appointment of Kelley Girod as the Theatre's Producing Director. Girod is the founder and executive producer for The Fire This Time Festival, for which she was awarded nytheatre.com Person of the Year in2011, and has been featured in American Theatre Magazine,The New York Times, and The Boston Globe. She received her MFA from Columbia University and her BA from Louisiana State University.

The Billie Holiday Theatre continues its 42nd Season Generations United with the World Premiere of Maid's Door by Writers Guild Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Cheryl L. Davis; the show will be directed by the Theatre's Artistic Director Jackie Alexander. Opening Night will be Thursday, March 6; and the show will run through Sunday, March 30. Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 8pm with matinees on Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 4pm. All tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.thebillieholiday.org or by calling the box office at 718-636-0918 or 0919. A discounted rate of $15 is available for Children 15 and younger, Seniors, and Students with a valid ID.
