The 2014 recipients of the Horton Foote Prize, named in honor of the legendary writer, to award excellence in American Theater, were just presented last night. The 2014 Prize for the 2012-13/2013-14 seasons' Outstanding New American Play was awarded to The Body of an American by Dan O'Brien and the 2014 Prize for Promising New American Play was awarded to Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2, & 3) by Suzan-Lori Parks. The 1979 cult classic 'The Warriors', with an introductory performance by acclaimed poet Lemon Andersen., is the next screening in the 'Sunday Movies at the Palace with Lin-Manuel Miranda' series that features classic New York City films every month. It's set for tonight, May 18, 2014. Doors open at 4:00pm. Stage show begins at 5:00pm. Screening at 5:30pm.

Producer Bo Corre, translator Marita Lindholm Gochman and Scandinavian American Theater Company, are presenting LARS NOREN TODAY: HIS WORK AND HIS WORLD on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 7pm at the Lynn Redgrave Theater in New York City. There will be a reading of selected scenes from his latest play 3.31.93. The version is being directed by Sofia Jupither who directed the world premiere at the City Theater, Stockholm in 2013. Legendary filmmaker John Landis will introduce a free screening of the 1933 classic KING KONG as part of the 'Sunday Movies at the United Palace with Lin-Manuel Miranda' series on April 27, 2014.

The United Palace (4140 Broadway, at 175th Street) and UPCA (United Palace of Cultural Arts) will feature a screening of the 1933 classic KING KONG, as part of its 'Sunday Movies at the Palace' screening series, curated and hosted by Tony and Grammy Award-winning performer/writer Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) on April 27th. Stage show begins at 5:00 followed by the screening at 5:30.

While 'Lee Daniels' The Butler' is generating Oscar buzz for its chronicle of several decades of African- American political life, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson masterfully documented a full century of the African-American experience in the 10 plays the make up the American Century Cycle. These works, nine of which have been staged on Broadway with stars including Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Charles Dutton, among many others, showed the suffering, joys, and triumphs of African-Americans through searing, poetic and personal stories of everyday people in Pittsburgh, PA.
