BWW Review: Everyman Makes A Ruckus With NOISES OFF
by Cybele Pomeroy
- May 26, 2017
Everyman Theatre pays exquisite attention to detail and creates an astounding feat of comedy in its production of NOISES OFF. The cast demonstrates comedic chops and executes pratfalls and buffoonery with commitment and perfect timing. Do yourself, your lungs and your liver a favor and laugh at the raucous riot. Don't be surprised if you find yourself craving sardines afterwards.
DORIAN'S CLOSET at Rep Stage - World Premiere Musical is Stunning!
by Charles Shubow
- May 10, 2017
Directed by Co-Artistic Director Joseph Ritsch, with book and lyrics by Richard Mailman and music by Ryan Haase, DORIAN'S CLOSET is a fictionalized account of Buffalo native Dorian Corey who headed to New York City for a life as a 'female impersonator' and 'performer' and became a huge hit. One may think of such Broadway hits like LA CAGE AUX FOLLES or KINKY BOOTS which both deal with the life of male performers dressing as females. And as in those two monster hits, a musical to succeed needs one heck of a star and Director Ritsch has found such an individual in Stephen Scott Wormley who is absolutely astonishing in his role as 'Dorian' . I recall seeing his former performances in ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (Olney Theatre Center), HAIRSPRAY at Signature Theatre, and in the HAIRSPRAY concert version with the Baltimore Symphony where he excelled as 'Seaweed'.

BWW Review: THE JUNGLE BOOK at Imagination Stage
by Elliot Lanes
- Apr 27, 2017
Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book has seen no shortage of adaptations. In addition to its original print form, it's the source for two Disney movies, and a stage adaptation at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago a few years back. Would-be adaptors face as slight problem in that while there is lots of fun within Kipling's stories about a human child named Mowgli being raised by wolves, the story also has a dark side to it that might not work well for the youngest of theatregoers. Imagination Stage in Bethesda, Maryland is currently presenting a new adaptation by Greg Banks of Kipling's work, which will leave your little ones engaged from beginning to end without clawing you to go into the lobby. Older kids and adults are also likely to enjoy themselves, making it a theatergoing experience for the whole family.
