Traverse Theatre Announces Spring/Summer 2017 Programme

The Traverse announces its Spring/Summer 2017 season today, December 12. The work presented has been selected to directly address a mix of both long-existent and emergent social, political and technological challenges, and comes from some of the most exciting companies in the UK.

Following a busy and hugely successful autumn season, where our co-production of Rob Drummond's Grain in the Blood with the Traverse and all our Changing House shows enjoyed sold-out runs, we're delighted to announce our programme for the Spring/Summer 2017, which marks the Tron's 35th anniversary year. 

The end of Traverse Theatre's Festival 2016 on 28 August brought the curtain down on another successful year for the theatre and its programme, with productions which have been embraced by audiences, brought brand new artists to international attention and pushed the boundaries of contemporary drama.

Theatre in Schools Scotland is a new initiative, established to support and develop the provision of theatre in Scotland's schools, with the ultimate aim of ensuring that every child in Scotland receives - at their nursery or school - a minimum of one performing arts production, per year, as a core part of their education.

After a sold-out presentation by The New Victory and a Drama Desk nomination in 2011, Cotton and Wrinkle are bringing the magic of White back to New York's little theatergoers. A work of modern theater for ages two to five, White is the story of a monochromatic world turned upside down when pops of color suddenly appear. The New Victory presentation of White will run at the New 42nd Street Studios from November 4-22.

As the Traverse Theatre enjoys an acclaimed Festival programme it launches its Autumn season today (17 August), featuring a programme of world-class productions, festivals and engagement events. Traverse Theatre Company production, Tracks of the Winter Bear by Rona Munro and Stephen Greenhorn, premieres on 9 December, bringing to a close a season of work that reinforces the Traverse's position as one of the UK's foremost new writing theatres. 

Devoted to kids and families since 1995, The New Victory Theater embarks on its 20th Anniversary season as New York's premier destination for inventive, inspiring and international performing arts at affordable prices. Among its roster of 16 shows in the 2015-16 season, which begins October 2, 2015 and runs through May 22, 2016, The New Victory is thrilled to bring five American works of theater to New York's family audiences.

Families with babies and young children now have the chance to experience two beautiful, immersive first-time theatre experiences at Arts Centre Melbourne in March and April. Acclaimed Scottish theatre company Catherine Wheels will welcome children aged between two and four to the beautifully strange world of White from 5 -11 March. Then in April grown-ups and babies will have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Rain, a tactile and musical performance installation responding to the experience of rain.

For this heart-warming and humorous coming-of-age story from Catherine Wheels Theatre Company, audiences will be seated on the New Vic stage for a truly interactive and up-close experience.

If there had ever been any doubts over the calibre of work for children and young people produced in Scotland, the 2014 CATS shortlists released today, Thursday 8 May 2014, would immediately dispel them. Two productions created specifically with a younger audience in mind - Dragon (Vox Motus, National Theatre of Scotland and the Tianjin People's Art Theatre, China) and Huff (Shona Reppe and Andy Manley, produced by Catherine Wheels Theatre Company) - have together received eight nominations across six categories including the highest accolade, Best Production.

The award-winning Catherine Wheels Theatre Company from Scotland presents White, an enchanting production for the very young, February 26 to March 23, at the Lovelace Studio Theater at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.

The New Victory Theater, New York City's premier performing arts venue for kids and families, adds two shows to their 2013-14 season. Making U.S. premieres at The New Victory Theater, Saltbush, from Compagnia T.P.O. and Insite Arts, will run from May 30-June 8, 2014, and The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk, from Catherine Wheels Theater Company, will run from June 13-22, 2014. For both shows, audiences are seated on stage with the performers for a truly interactive theater experience.

Yesterday, June 3, The 57th Annual Drama Desk Awards were held at The Town Hall, celebrating this year's big winners. The festivities were presided over by star of stage and screen Brooke Shields and Broadway favorite - and previous Drama Desk winner - Brian d'Arcy James. The Traverse has announced its 2012 Festival programme. Over four weeks, the Traverse will host nineteen shows and events, with eight world premieres and two Scottish premieres, including a double bill of David Greig's THE LETTER OF LAST RESORT and David Harrower's GOOD WITH PEOPLE.

Today, the Drama Desk organization announced that it will recognize The New Victory Theater, New York's first and only theater devoted to kids and families, with a special 2011-12 honor for "providing enchanting, sophisticated children's theater that appeals to the child in all of us, and for nurturing a love of theater in young people."
