Luminato Festival is excited to present the world premiere of SLEEPING IN THE DEVIL'S BED: THE MUSIC OF DANIEL LANOIS, an all-star salute to an incomparable musical legacy. Producer Hal Willner has crafted legendary concerts interpreting and celebrating the work of Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman and Nino Rota, among many others. His salute to Lanois, featuring Bill Frisell, Kevin Drew, the Handsome Family, Emmylou Harris, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Anna McGarrigle, Martha Wainwright and more, celebrates five decades of artistic brilliance.

"It was hard to think of who could follow Joni Mitchell after last year's triumphant concerts and her return to the stage," said Luminato Festival Artistic Director Jorn Weisbrodt. "To celebrate Daniel Lanois takes a slightly different direction as he is more than a songwriter, his talent and body of work highlights the entire complexity of the music business. His influence is heard and felt in so much of the work of the greatest musicians of today."

Making music, both as a singer-songwriter and as a producer, has been Daniel Lanois' lifelong passion. While still in his 20s, he established his sterling reputation, producing a spectrum of Canadian artists. Global renown soon followed when frequent collaborator Brian Eno invited Lanois to co-produce The Unforgettable Fire for U2. His groundbreaking work with the band continued with The Joshua Tree, which won a Grammy for Album of the Year. He has since produced albums for such varied superstars as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Peter Gabriel, and Emmylou Harris.

As a performer, he has recorded eight bestselling albums and contributed to several film soundtracks, including Billy Bob Thornton's Oscar-winning Sling Blade. Last year, Daniel Lanois was presented with the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

"Bringing in Hal Willner to curate and produce this show is an added bonus, as he is one of the greatest musical minds, an "unearther" of talents, and has such interesting connections throughout the global music scene," added Weisbrodt. "The shows that he puts together are different than what anyone else is doing, and that is what I think we as a Festival have to do."
