Award winning actress Whoopi Goldberg attended last Thursday night's performance of this season's new Disney musical ALADDIN. Goldberg paid a special visit to 2014 Tony nominee James Monroe Iglehart (Genie) after the show. She gushed over his performance, calling it "the meaning of 'sensational!'" The 2014 Drama Desk Awards, which will be hosted by Laura Benanti on Sunday, June 1st, held a reception for its talented nominees this week. Shows that opened on Broadway, Off-Broadway, or Off-Off-Broadway are eligible for Drama Desk nominations. Broadway's original musical, "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" led this year with twelve nominations. Click here to see coverage of the nominees' arrivals!

Respectively the Artistic Director and Executive Director of Classic Stage Company, Brian Kulick and Greg Reiner presented the company's 2014 gala: MUSICAL MASTERWORKS. The evening featured many classic show tunes, as well as many popular Broadway performers. Santino Fontana, Jeremy Jordan, and Rebecca Luker were among the many actors who performed. Broadway favorites Fran Drescher and Christopher Sieber celebrated to reopening of Tavern on the Green this Monday night. This historic celebration took place in Central Park, one of New York City's most popular tourist destinations. The Central Park Conservancy decided to reopen the Tavern because they wanted a less formal dining option for visitors of the park. Click here to see photos from the celebration!

This past Sunday night, BroadwayWorld produced a concert at Joe's Pub in celebration of Jule Styne and his contributions to musical theatre. Songs from "Gypsy," "Funny Girl," and "Peter Pan" were among the highlights of the night. BroadwayWorld's own Pat Cerasaro directed this special event, with help from Phil Hall as the music director. This year's New York Theatre Workshops Gala Performance honored Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff and President of the Dodgers, Michael David. The performance took place this past Monday night in the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel. Performers at the event included Sebastian Arcelus, Roger Bart, Nick Cosgrove, Nikki M. James, Victoria Clark, and members of the casts of "Matilda" and "Jersey Boys." Click here to see coverage of this special night!

Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown was honored at Sardi's, as his caricature was unveiled. Cast members Steven Pasquale and Kelli O'Hara from his current show, "The Bridges of Madison County," celebrated the event with him, alongside his other friends, family, and colleagues. The new comedy UNDER MY SKIN, written by the creators of television shows "Who's the Boss?" and "Nanny" took its opening night bow on Thursday night at the Little Shubert Theatre. The cast features Tony Award-nominee Kerry Butler, Matt Walton, Megan Sikora, Allison Strong, Ed Hyland, Dierdre Friel, Kate Loprest, and Andrew Polk. On Monday night, the longest-running Broadway musical "The Phantom of the Opera" celebrated an enormous milestone in welcoming Sierra Boggess and Norm Lewis to the cast as Christine and the Phantom. Lewis made a historic bow in the role being the first African-American man to portray the Phantom on Broadway. Boggess and Lewis already have a history of performing together, as they co-starred in Broadway's production of "The Little Mermaid" several years ago. "The Untold Stories of Broadway, Vol. 1" tells many pivotal stories about the most important Broadway productions to date from a wide range of perspectives, including that of producers, actors, stage hands, writers, productions designers, ushers, and more. This book, written by Jennifer Ashley Tepper, was showcased at the new Tony Awards Pop-Up Shop, with appearances from Brian Yorkey, Annie Golden, Caissie Levy, and the author herself. The Tony-nominated production "After Midnight" welcomes its original cast member Fantasia Barrino back to the stage in the role of "Special Guest Star" for a four-week engagement. Fantasia will cover the role from now until the Tony Awards, which will be held on Sunday, June 8th. Click here to see more photos of Fantasia's exciting return to the stage!
