Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces Spun. The show opened last night, April 17, 2014 in the Livia and Steve Russell Theatre at the Phoenix, and runs through May 11, 2014. It is directed by Bloomington Playwrights Project Producing Artistic Director Chad Rabinovitz. The show stars Lisa Ermel as Molly and Chris Roe as Jesse. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

Spun was originally commissioned and produced by fellow National New Play Network (NNPN) Member Theatre Bloomington Playwrights Project. National New Play Network (NNPN) is the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays. The book is written by former Bloomingtonian Emily Goodson, who now lives in Detroit. Music and lyrics by Jeremy Schonfeld run the gamut from folk to almost heavy metal to blues.

Following their father's death, twenty-something estranged siblings, Molly and Jesse, try to find a way to reconnect within the ruins of their childhood. But memories have a funny way of changing over time, and with two very different recollections of their life-altering choices on a night eight years prior, blame, doubt, and rock-n-roll become weapons. This high-octane musical explores the complexities of family, forgiveness, memory and perception, weaving together the memories and unique perspectives of siblings with comedy, wit, and rock.

Emily Goodson is a Bloomington theatre veteran, currently working in Detroit, Michigan.

Singer-Songwriter and musical theater composer Jeremy Schonfeld's singular blend of tuneful pop, hard-edged rock, gospel, soul and blues has drawn him comparisons to Billy Joel and Jonathan Larson in the New York Times, and has made him one of todays most sought after singer/songwriter talents and musical theater composers. Smart and contemporary with intelligent lyrics, Schonfeld attended the Berklee College of Music and participated in the BMI Lehman-Engel Musical Theater Workshop.

Chad Rabinovitz is Producing Artistic Director at Bloomington Playwrights Project where Spun was initially created. He has directed and produced more than 100 productions across the country, focusing on new and contemporary works.

In addition, the production staff for Spun includes Bryan Fonseca as Producer, David Sheehan as Assistant Director, Shane Cinal as Set Designer, Lee Burckes as Lighting Designer, Rebecca Itow as Choreographer, Ashley Kiefer as Props Master and Costume Designer, Ben Dobler as Audio and Electric Supervisor, and Chelsey Stauffer as Stage Manager.
