The world premiere production of the brand new musical comedy Bullets Over Broadway, written by Woody Allen and based on the screenplay by Allen and Douglas McGrath for the 1994 film opened on April 11 at the St. James Theatre. BULLETS OVER BROADWAY tells the story of an aspiring young playwright (Braff) newly arrived on Broadway in 1920's New York who is forced to cast a mobster's (Pastore) talentless girlfriend (Yorke) in his latest drama in order to get it produced. The Michael Grandage Company production of The Cripple of Inishmaan, by Martin McDonagh, starring Daniel Radcliffe and the critically acclaimed West End cast began previews on April 12 and BroadwayWorld.com was on hand to capture the star-studded cast's first curtain call. The Cripple of Inishmaan comes to Broadway following its sold out run last summer at the West End's Noel Coward Theatre, where it was part of an award-winning season of five plays produced by Michael Grandage Company. Music Theatre of Connecticut MainStage, Fairfield County's award-winning professional theatre company, concludes its 2013/2014 Season with "The Fantasticks" a musical with book by Tom Jones, music by Harvey Schmidt, lyrics by Tom Jones and based on "Les Romanesques" by Edmond Rostand. "The Fantasticks" tells an allegorical story of two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love by pretending to feud. Check out production photos here!

Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill recounts Holiday's life story through the songs that made her famous. 1959, in a small, intimate bar in Philadelphia, Holiday puts on a show that unbeknownst to the audience, will leave them witnesses to one of the last performances of her life. Through her poignant voice and moving songs, one of the greatest jazz singers of all-time shares her loves and her losses. Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill stars five-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald under the direction of Lonny Price (110 in the Shade, A Class Act), will play a strictly limited 10-week engagement with only 70 performances at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Old Vic Productions and Hampstead Theatre Productions present the critically acclaimed play Good People, which began a limited run of just ten weeks at the Noel Coward Theatre on 10th April. Led by Imelda Staunton (Margaret) and Lloyd Owen (Mike), the full cast of Good People at the Noel Coward Theatre includes Lorraine Ashbourne (Jean), Matthew Barker(Stevie), Susan Brown (Dottie) and Angel Coulby (Kate). This year's Olivier Awards took place on 13 April, and BroadwayWorld was there! British theatre's most sought-after awards have been a mark of theatrical greatness since they were inaugurated in 1976 as the Society of West End Theatre Awards. The society is now known as Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and its glittering awards are now the Olivier Awards in honour of a theatrical legend. Winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, an exciting new play from the playwright behind the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights. Elliot Ortiz is back in the States after serving in Iraq, reconnecting with family and starting a new life. At the same time, four strangers in an internet chat room seek support to face demons of their own, and soon the real world and the virtual one start to intersect in unexpected ways. Directed by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro, the new Broadway production of Of Mice and Men, opened April 16 and BroadwayWorld was there! Of Mice and Men features James Franco, Chris O'Dowd, Leighton Meester, Ron Cephas Jones, Alex Morf, Joel Marsh Garland, James McMenamin, Jim Ortlieb, Jim Parrack, Michael Dempsey, Kevin Jackson, Erica Lutz, and Stephen Payne. After Sunday's Olivier Awards ceremony, there was of course time for winners, presenters and guests to chat to the press - and then celebrate at the after-show party. Established in 1976, the Olivier Awards celebrate the world-class status of London theatre and are Britain's most prestigious stage honors.
