On Friday 6 December 2013 whilst visiting New York, Declan Bennett, who plays Guy in the West End production of Once, dropped in to visit Arthur Darvill and Joanna Christie who play Guy and Girl in the Broadway production. They met on the shows onstage bar at the Bernard B. Jacob's Theatre where they swapped anecdotes about performing on both sides of the Atlantic in this multi-award winning production. Once was originally developed at the American Repertory Theater (Cambridge, Massachusetts) in April 2011. A developmental run of Once at New York Theatre Workshop began performances in November 2011. The production went on to break box office records and concluded a sold out engagement including a two week extension. Oncewon the 2013 Grammy award for Best Musical Theatre album.

The 2007 Academy Award® winning film Once was written and directed by John Carney and starred Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová who also composed the original music and lyrics. The Oscar winning independent Irish film was shot in 17 days and was made for $150,000. It went on to gross $20m worldwide becoming a critically acclaimed international smash hit.

The West End production of Once continues at The Phoenix Theatre with bookings currently to 31 May 2014.

The Broadway production of Once continues at the Bernard B. Jacob's Theatre and the North American tour began this Autumn.
