The made for TV musical movie DEAR DUMB DIARY, based on the novels by Jim Benton, premiered on the Hallmark Channel on Friday, September 6, 2013. Lakeshore Records digitally released the companion soundtrack album on September 10, 2013. Physical copies of the album were released on October 1, 2013. The fluffy, feel-good story follows Jaime Kelly, played by Emily Alyn Lind, as she navigates the world of Mackerel Middle School.

With a crush on Hudson Rivers, an eighth grader, Jamie writes her innermost thoughts into her diary. During her 6th grade year, the school's arts program is threatened by budget cuts, so Assistant Principal Devon announces a jump-a-thon fundraiser. Jamie sees this as a way to save the arts and impress Hudson. However, her diary goes missing, creating a whole new set of challenges for her to overcome as she attempts to bring justice to the ordinary people of the world. Along the way, Jamie learns the importance of always doing the right thing, not to judge by appearances, to put aside personal feelings for the greater good, and to recognize her own inner beauty.

At the young age of 11, Emily Alyn Lind is proving herself to be quite a talent. On the record her voice is the right mix of cute, bubbly, and sprightly. Upon hearing the tuneful ditties, I can only imagine that the music will be well-enjoyed ear candy for many youngsters. Visions of my young nieces dancing in their living room immediately sprung to my head. I even found songs like "My Awesomeness Is Awesome" to be irresistibly charming, making me merrily tap my toes to its peppy beat. Likewise, she brought a smile to my face with "People of the World" and her cover of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi."

If I had children, this would be the type of music I'd be more than happy to listen to with them. I highly doubt I'll ever walk around singing these songs, but I know that the next time I drive my nieces to see a show, I'll treat them to the album. I can only imagine that they'll love every track on the recording.

DEAD DUMB DIARY (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) can be purchased from iTunes, Amazon, and elsewhere music is sold.
