Ten years ago, as a reaction to over-amplification of musicals, Scott Siegel had the crazy idea that there might be an audience for a concert of Broadway show tunes performed the way they used to be sung: without microphones. And Scott had the perfect place to try out his theory, the acoustically wonderful Town Hall on West 43rd St. With no money, but the support of a great many singers who wanted, literally, to be heard in a way that was no longer possible on Broadway, he launched the first Broadway Unplugged, boasting "Sound Design by God."

This year's concert featured Tony Nominees, Liz Callaway, Christopher Sieber,Tonya Pinkins, Christiane Noll, and Barbara Walsh. Broadway Unplugged will also have the booming voice of William Michalswho played Emile de Beque in the Lincoln Center production of South Pacific, the brilliant old school song and dance talents of Town Hall favorites Noah Racey and Jeffry Denman, and critically acclaimed opera star, John Easterlin. The concert will have bright tenors like Max von Essen (Evita), Bill Daugherty (Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?), powerful baritones like Jeff McCarthy (Urinetown), and a great young vocalist on the fast track stardom (and a Broadway by the Year favorite), Carole J. Bufford.
