A Contemporary Theatre and The 5th Avenue Theatre are excited to announce that the new comedy First Date opens tonight at the Longacre Theatre as the first musical of the 2013-14 Broadway season, starring Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez. First Date received its world premiere in Seattle onstage at ACT Theatre and was co-produced by ACT and The 5th Avenue Theatre in 2012. Watch a scene from the Seattle premiere and check out photos in the flashback below!

The new musical comedy features a book by Austin Winsberg ("Gossip Girl"), with music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Secondhand Lions, Twice Charmed). Bill Berry (producing director of The 5th Avenue Theatre), who directed the world premiere at ACT Theatre, directs the Broadway production.

The 5th Avenue Theatre and ACT - A Contemporary Theatre Seattle, WA (Kurt Beattie, artistic director, and Carlo Scandiuzzi, executive director), knew they immediately had a hit on their hands when they heard the uproarious laughter and enthusiastic applause from the first audiences to see the new comedy back in early 2012. First Date quickly became a word of mouth hit and became one of the most sought after tickets in town. Producer Kenny Alhadeff of Junkyard Dog Productions (who previously took the hit Memphis from Seattle to Broadway) felt that First Date was ready for the prime time, and tonight First Date has its grand opening at the famed Longacre Theatre on Broadway.
