On April 12, 2013, The New York Pops continued its 30th season with an evening celebrating the 65th birthday of Stephen Schwartz and the 10th anniversary of his hit musical Wicked with The Wizard and I: The Musical Journey of Stephen Schwartz. Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke led the orchestra as they performed highlights from some of the composer-lyricist's most beloved works. The concert took place at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. BroadwayWorld was there and takes you backstage in the photos here!

MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL opened on April 14, 2013, at Broadway's The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46 Street). Many of the legendary stars that were part of the actual MOTOWN sound came out to celebrate the show, including the curtain call; check it out here!

Playwrights Horizons and Primary Stages' World Premiere co-production of The Call, the new play by Tanya Barfield (Blue Door at Playwrights Horizons/PH), is directed by two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman (Go Back to Where You Are and Blue Door at PH; Hunting and Gathering at Primary Stages/PS; Golden Child, Chinglish, Well, In the Wake) at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street). Broadway's Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent), Carolee Carmello (The Addams Family) and Montego Glover (Memphis) guest star on the next SMASHon NBC. The episode, titled 'The Producers' airs Saturday, April 27 at 9:00 pm/ET. Get a first look below!
In the episode, an off-the-rail Jimmy (Jeremy Jordan) threatens "Hit List's" future, as Karen (Katharine McPhee), Derek (Jack Davenport), Ana (Krysta Rodriguez) and Kyle (Andy Mientus) try to help him before something bad happens. Go here for more photos!

BROADWAY SINGS Stevie Wonder, starring Tituss Burgess, Corey Cott, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Caissie Levy, and more, took place last night at le Poisson Rouge.The concert featured over 15 cover songs to celebrate the Motown legend's iconic hits, including "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)", "Superstition", "For Once in My Life", and "Sir Duke". The music will be directed, orchestrated, and arranged by Joshua Stephen Kartes. BroadwayWorld brings you photos from the concert here!

The company of MATILDA just celebrated their opening with the Gypsy Robe ritual with the company's recipient Nadine Isenegger. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the event and brings you full photo coverage here. The Gypsy Robe began in 1950, when Bill Bradley, in the chorus of GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, borrowed a dressing gown from Chorus member Florence Baum and sent it to a friend in CALL ME MADAM on opening night Oct 12, 1950 saying it was worn by all the Ziegfeld beauties and would "bless" the show.

THE RASCALS: ONCE UPON A DREAM, which opened Tuesday night on Broadway, is directed by Steven Van Zandt and Marc Brickman. With music byFelix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati, The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream has stage, video and lighting design by Brickman and has music production and is written by legendary guitarist Van Zandt. BIG FISH has its pre-Broadway world premiere at Chicago's Oriental Theatre (24 West Randolph Street) in a limited 5-week engagement opening Friday, April 19, 2013, and playing through Sunday, May 5, 2013. Starring two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Catch Me If You Can) as Edward Bloom, Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin (Giant, Finian's Rainbow) as Sandra Bloom, Tony Award nominee Bobby Steggert (Giant, Ragtime) as Will Bloom and Krystal Joy Brown (Leap Of Faith) as Josephine Bloom. Opening Night is Monday, April 22 at 6:30pm for award-winning stage and screen actress Fiona Shaw's return to Broadway in The Testament of Mary, a new playby acclaimed author Colm Tóibín, directed by Deborah Warner. The four-time Tony nominated musical sensation JEKYLL & HYDE began its Broadway engagement last night, April 18, featuring Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis alongside Grammy Award nominee and R&B superstar Deborah Cox.
