Just like the BroadwayWorld College Center, the High School Center offers a directory featuring upcoming show listings for high schools nationwide. Schools can register for 'enhanced' listings on the site - adding in photos, cast lists, videos, links and more. Productions that take advantage of this will receive highlights on our listing pages, extra editorial mentions and potential spotlight features.

This week's High School in the Spolight goes to the Department of Theatre at Weston High School in Weston, MA!

Courses in theater arts at Weston High School are designed to be equally relevant to all students whether or not they participate in the school‘s after-school drama program. Through study in theater arts, students gain self-confidence in public, greater clarity of speaking, improved interpersonal skills, and spontaneity. Classroom approaches to performance skills and technical work are designed to be appropriate for the novice as well as the experienced performer or technician. Students wishing to continue the work done in middle school drama courses should enroll in Introduction to Theater Arts. Students desiring more focused study may wish to enroll in Advanced Theater Arts and/or Technical Theater Arts.

The Weston High School Theater Company is one of the district's performing arts gems. The student club produces a fall dramatic performance, an original one-act play for competition, and a spring musical. Under the direction of Theater Department head, John Minigan, and supported by Music Department Head, Chris Memoli, and many other faculty and staff, students of all levels of interest and skill can experience the thrill of the stage. The group also sponsors workshops, field trips to local theaters and elsewhere, presentations of student-written work as well as participation in the Boston Shakespeare Competition the Mass Youth Playwrights Project and the Massachusetts High School Drama Festival.

Weston Junior Broadway is a student-led club that adopts the role of director, producer and manager for the production of an annual musical whose cast is comprised of middle school students. Concession sales and ticket proceeds for the productions go to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
