For the cast of Red Branch Theatre Company's Avenue Q the only thing that was supposed to be special about last Sunday's performance was that it was the first matinee of its run. However, after the final curtain they learned that they had just performed for the show's original award-winning composer, Jeff Marx. Check out a photo of Marx with the cast below!

"We were surprised and shocked to learn that Jeff was in the audience," said Jenny Male, the show's director. "He was in Maryland over the weekend and had seen that we were running the show and decided to attend the performance. "

Red Branch Theatre Company management received a phone call from Marx Sunday morning requesting a ticket for that afternoon's performance. "He offered to visit with the cast after the show, and we decided not to tell them he was there until after the performance in order to avoid any unnecessary nervousness or add any additional pressure," said Stephanie Williams, executive producer of Red Branch Theatre Company.

The cast was treated to a performance by Marx as well. "He played one of the new songs he's been composing for us," said Male. "He was very supportive and complimentary. We are so honored that he chose to come see us perform," Male added.

Avenue Q is currently playing at Drama Learning Center in Columbia through October 21st. Red Branch Theatre Company commissioned original puppets for its production of the show by artisan Kaitlen Sousa.
