Two of the brightest lights from the new Broadway generation-two-time Tony nominee Gavin Creel and Stephen Oremus, the Tony-winning music director and arranger of Wicked and The Book of Mormon recently appeared in a secial concert for Lincoln Center's American Songbook series. The duo joined forces on February 4, for a special evening that mixes alternative rock and theater tunes with new material to create a modern American songbook.

The series kicked off on January 11 with a concert by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and has continued with such acts as William Finn, Michael Cerveris, Leslie Kritzer and more. Continuing through February 11, The American Songbook series is set to feature theater favorites such as Elaine Paige and Laura Benanti in the coming days, in additition to an impressive roster of additional talent. Since it was launched in 1998, American Songbook has been dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary achievements of the popular American songwriter from the turn of the 20th century to the present day. Spanning all styles and genres from Tin Pan Alley and Broadway to the eclecticism of today's songwriters working in pop, cabaret, rock, folk and country, American Songbook traces the history and charts the course of the American song from its past and current forms to its future direction.
