ProArts, Inc. is proud to present "Rats! The Pied Piper Musical" a new "fractured fairy tale" as the second production of their Spring season of family friendly shows. The wacky and wild fairy tale with a new twist will be presented for thirteen performances at the ProArts Playhouse in Kihei.

With book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Lehman and Kim Vetterli, this original musical story is set in the formerly peaceful town of Hamelin, now besieged with singing and dancing rats! The town's only hope is to hire Peter, the Pied Piper to rid the town of the vocalizing vermin. Madcap merriment ensues as Little Miss Muffet and the Town Council battle it out with conjuring, conniving con-artists, Madame Marie and The Great Donny. Happy ending? Of course! Loads of laughs and tons of tunes along the way. Come dance "The Rat" with the rockin' rodents!

From the creative team that brought you "The Fantasticks" and "Driving Miss Daisy", "Rats!" is brought to life in Kihei by Maui's top talent: Leif Peterson as Peter the Piper, Chaney Cramer as Little Miss Muffet, Bill Schnitzer as Mayor Muffet, Paul Janes-Brown as Mr. Fiddle, Laura Bloom Farber as Mr. Faddle, Jett Batoon as Madame Marie, Roland K. Harper as The Great Donny and Lisa Teichner, Barbara Sedano, Kristi Scott and GIna Duncan as The Rats.

"Rats!" is directed by Lehman, with musical direction by Marti Kluth. The colorful scenery is designed by Caro Walker with whimsical costumes by Kathleen Schulz and lighting by Bonnie Prucha. ProArts productions are co-produced by Doug Kendrick and Jonathan Lehman.

Opening night is April 22 and the show plays until May 8, 2011 ; Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 4:00pm, and Sundays at 1:00 and 4:00pm. There will be no performances on April 24. Reserved seating is $15.00 and floor seating(for the keiki) is just $10.00.

The intimate ProArts Playhouse is located at the Azeka (Makai) Shopping Center, 1280 S. Kihei Rd. in Kihei. The Playhouse is air conditioned with 72 reserved seats. There is free parking, plenty of nearby restaurants, and an art gallery inside currently featuring photography by Jack Grace and watercolors by Leslie Granat.

All ages will enjoy this funny, original musical which runs 1 hour with no intermission.
