The Boiler Room Theatre (BRT), Williamson County's residentprofessional theatre company, continues its 10 th season with Jonathan Larson's musicalRent opening October 1, 2010 at the theatre, located in the historic Factory at Franklin, 230 Franklin Rd., Building Six, in Franklin, Tenn. for a run through October 31.

The Boiler Room Theatre is the first local professional theatre in the Nashvillearea to stage this game-changing musical that defined a generation and heralded thebeginning of a new age of Broadway musicals. With book, music and lyrics all by Jonathan Larson, he received the Pulitzer prize for Rent. Based loosely on Puccini'sopera La Boheme, this edgy rock operetta follows a year in the lives of seven friendsliving the disappearing Bohemian lifestyle in New York's East Village.

AIDS and both its physical and emotional complications pervade the lives of the principal characters Roger, Mimi, Collins, and Angel; Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner, Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble; and Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general, always behind the camera recording the events but never playing a part."We are excited to be producing Rent," said Director and BRT Co-Founder Corbin Green. "There are not many times in your career as a director when you get theopportunity to work on such an iconic show.

There are just a handful of shows thatseemed to change the landscape of American theatre and Rent is definitely one of them.We have an exciting cast with some of the best actors I've had the privilege to work with. Rent will be an unforgettable show."Rent stars Ciarán McCarthy as Roger, Benjamin Van Diepen as Mark, JamesRudolph as Collins, Michael Holder as Angel, Valerie Navarre as Joanne, Laura Matula as Mimi, Heather Trabucco as Maureen, and Mike Baum as Benny. The castensemble is comprised of Laura Thomas, David Williams, Karrah Tines, Ryan Leyhue, Alan Smith, Christina Candilora and Jeffrey Williams.Musical direction is by Jamey Green, choreography by Lauri Gregoire, and costumes by Melissa Cannon. Neely Green is the show's Producer.Performances will be held on Tuesday, Thursday (Oct. 14, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28), Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., with two discount Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 31.

Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors (age 60 and up) and students (age13 through college with valid ID. The show is rated R for adult themes and language.Matinee prices are $2 less respectively. All Tuesday shows are two-for-one ($25 for two tickets; no other discounts apply).
