DoSomething.org hosted an exquisite refuge for members of the Tri-State Area who were not at the Sex & The City 2 fashion-show-disguised-as-a-film-premiere last night. Held at Harlem's flagship attraction, the Apollo Theater, guests congregated for the announcement of this year's DoSomething Award recipient nominees. Five Super Youth committed to service and social change took the stage to accept their nods, which were made by stars from hit TV series including Brian Baumgartner (The Office), Tristan Wilds (90210), Zach Roerig and Sara Canning (Vampire Diaries) and Elizabeth Gilles (Victorious). Each of these five young nominees received a community grant of $10,000 for their service projects. One will take home the grand prize of a $100,000 grant to be presented at the DoSomething Awards, which will air live from Los Angeles on VH1 on July 19, 2010 with host Jane Lynch.

Faced with the challenge of meeting the entertainment standard set by a closing performance from Akon at last year's program, DoSomething.org got the Apollo audience out of its seats, and the hearts of every woman and gay in the house throbbing, with a special serenade from global icons, Backstreet Boys, who swung by during their current reunion tour. Everclear front man, Art Alexakis, also manned the stage for an acoustic set of the crowd's favorite hits.

Not to be upstaged by its Radio City MusicAl Hall competitor last night, DoSomething.org perfectly accessorized its nomination event at the Apollo with the next best thing to the women of Sex & The City 2 - four drag queens dressed up like the women of Sex & The City 2. Deemed the "Other Sex" & the City crew, guests were greeted by these fabulous four. Even special guest, Peter Buffet, could resist a photo opp upon arrival.

With the help of DoSomething founder Andrew Shue and wife Amy Robach (Weekend Today Show), the organization also announced the 2010 VH1 DoSomething Awards celebrity categories, honoring the entertainment industry for its continued dedication to activism and charity projects. All voting for these categories, including influential celebrities, musicians, comedians, athletes, inspiring films, TV shows and social media initiatives can be done by the public at DoSomething.VH1.com.
