Photo Flash: Arthur Elbakyan's New Paintings to Be Featured in MY INSANE SHAKESPEARE

Actor, director and scriptwriter Arthur Elbakyan will present new paintings at his award-winning solo performance MY INSANE SHAKESPEARE, winner of the 2014 United Solo and Backstage Magazine Audience Award, in New York City's Theatre Row this November. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the works!

The world premiere of MY INSANE SHAKESPEARE took place last October at the world's largest theatre festival, United Solo, debuting pieces of original artwork by Elbakyan. He began painting while he was working on the stage design of his play. He created several unique oil paintings as if to have been painted by the main character himself, a man who finds himself in an insane asylum against his own will, thanks to the efforts of his closest friends.

"I tell the true story of the main character with my paintings. You could say that he has painted them. Isolated from society and the outside world, he searches for answers, and in the midst of solitude and struggle, he rediscovers himself and begins to write, to paint, and to create," continues Elbakyan.

Since then Elbakyan has not stopped painting. On the contrary, he has created new collections of oil, acrylic and mixed media paintings and is planning his solo exhibitions with several prominent galleries.

"For me painting is another form of self-expression. I paint my world every day. Photos precisely capture and transfer any life moment, subject, flower, face, any range of colors of nature. This is why I paint what a photo camera cannot capture. I paint my emotions, my inner world, my dreams, my fantasies. I fell in love with the smell of the paint. Every color has its own smell and character. And together they create a perfect symphony," explains Elbakyan.
