Last night Rita Moreno interviewed Gloria and Emilio Estefan at the 92Y and BroadwayWorld was there.

In a fascinating and lively interview conducted by Ms. Moreno, the Estefans talked about their life, their music, their love, and of course the new Broadway musical based on their life- On Your Feet. The musical directed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, choreographed by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo, and original book by Academy Award Winner Alexander Dinelaris is currently in previews at the Marquis Theatre.

A touching moment occurred before the interview when Gloria met Daniel Trush. When Daniel was 12, he suffered a brain aneurysm while playing basketball and nearly died, but today he is the life force that drives Daniel's Music Foundation. His happiness and zest for life is incomparable and his dynamic, positive, and friendly personality is contagious. This life altering experience is the inspiration for why the entire Trush family were compelled to found Daniel's Music Foundation. After experiencing first-hand the personal and social challenges for individuals with disabilities combined with music playing such and integral role in Daniel's recovery, the need for a place like Daniel's Music Foundation was obvious - so they created a community where individuals with disabilities where treated with respect, kindness and acceptance while sharing the magic and power of music together. Daniel father Ken Trush told me that Daniel constantly listened to the Estefan's music during his ordeal and was a huge fan.
