Westport Country Playhouse is staging the comic satire, “Straight White Men,” by Young Jean Lee, from now through June 5, directed by Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director. The show’s 2018 Broadway run made Lee the first Asian American female playwright to have a work produced there.

2019 brought us a slew of new shows on Broadway and beyond. From fan favorites like Be More Chill, and Beetlejuice, smash hits like Moulin Rouge! and Hadestown, to plays such as Slave Play, Betrayal, and The Rose Tattoo, this year had something for all theatre fans to enjoy.

Orlando was a deeply engaging, intriguing and thought-provoking exploration whose pondering, messages, striking soundscapes and visuals reverberated and lingered long after the curtain had closed. It is a highly ambitious undertaking but Neuwirth and her colleagues were up for the challenge. What is most exciting is what has now been established for a venue such as The Wiener Straatsoper as we move into a new decade of uncertain times when it is vital that radical expressions of art and activism combined are given such a grand stage with which to proclaim their truths.

67 years after her Broadway debut and 23 years since she was last seen on Broadway, Lois Smith will be 89 when The Inheritance opens on November 17. On Saturday, the company surprised her onstage as she celebrated the big day!

SPEND YOUR KIDS' INHERITANCE is a reverse coming-of-age musical about four seniors who plot to regain their independence. 2019 Canadian Comedy Award winner, Andrew Lamb, director of the hit musical My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding, directs this new musical premiere at the Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse, at the Toronto Fringe, July 4-14, 2019.

Multiple Tony Award-nominated Broadway producer Tom Kirdahy was presented The Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award for 'Outstanding Achievement In Commercial Theater Producing' at a reception at Sardi's on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

A 40th Anniversary reunion benefit concert of the 1979 hit Broadway production of They're Playing Our Song was held on Monday, February 11th at 7:30 pm at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th St.). The show starred the Broadway cast members Lucie Arnaz as 'Sonia Walsk' and Robert Klein as 'Vernon Gersch'.

Porchlight Music Theatre's production of the 2014 Tony Award-winning Best Musical A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder has been extended through Saturday, March 16  at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Street. A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder stars Matt Crowle and features music by Stephen Lutvak, lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak, and a Tony Award-winning book by Robert L. Freedman, is directed and choreographed by Stephen Schellhardt and music directed by Andra Velis Simon.
