It won Best Unique Theatrical Experience and 2017 MAC Award Show of the Year. 'Hamilton?' No, 'Spamilton: An American Parody,' which is now starting its North American tour at the Hanna Theatre in CLE's Playhouse Square.

The Off Broadway Alliance, an organization of Off-Broadway producers, theaters, general managers, press agents, and marketing professionals, just presented the 8th Annual Off-Broadway Alliance Awards, honoring commercial and not-for-profit productions that opened Off-Broadway during the 2017-2018 season. Winners included: Desperate Measures (Best New Musical), Transfers (Best New Play), The Government Inspector (Best Revival), KPOP (Best Unique Theatrical Experience), Billy Crudup, Harry Clarke (Best Solo Performance), Polka Dots: The Cool Kids Musical(Best Family Show). 

Theatre fans and critics were all in attendance for the Opening Night  of Forever Plaid on Sunday, May 6 at Theatre at the Center in Munster.  Matt Edmonds, in the role of Sparky, Adam LaSalle as Francis, Yando Lopez as Jinx and Christopher Ratliff as Smudge star in Theatre at the Center's spring musical. Performances continue through June 3.

Betsy Wolfe (Falsettos, Waitress), Eddie Korbich (A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder, The Drowsy Chaperone), Sal Viviano (The Full Monty, The Life), Olivier Award winner Lesli Margherita who has won fans across the length and breadth of Broadway with her starring roles in Matilda & Dames at Sea, Tony Yazbeck (Tony Award nominee for On the Town), Jenny Lee Stern (Rocky: The Musical & Spamilton), and Mia Gerachis (Jekyll & Hyde) performed at Broadway by the Year at Town Hall on March 26th at 8pm.

Currently in rehearsals, 'Spamilton' begins previews November 5, opens November 12 and continues through December 31, 2017, at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. The York Theatre Company presents the hit Broadway revue Jerry's Girls, with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and concept by Larry Alford, Wayne Cilento, and Jerry Herman, featuring the greatest songs for women from such immortal musicals as Mame, Hello Dolly!, Milk and Honey, Mack and Mabel, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine and La Cage Aux Folles.

BROADWAY BY THE TEAR, a dynamic evening of torch songs, produced, written, and hosted by NY's critically acclaimed impresario, Scott Siegel at Feinstein's/54 Below on July 29th, featured Garth Kravits (The Drowsy Chaperone), Meredith Inglesby (Beauty and the Beast), Farah Alvin, (Nine, Saturday Night Fever, It Shoulda Been You), Mia Gerachis, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka (A Little Night Music), Philippa Lynas (Australian singing star), Pepe Nufrio (54 Sings Broadway's Greatest Hits!), Jenny Lee Stern (Forbidden Broadway, Rocky: The Musical, Spamilton), Morissa Trunzo (Occasion for Sin), Remy Zaken and Rashad Naylor, with Ryan Shirar on the keys.

The best of Broadway will perform for FREE on six consecutive Thursdays this summer with '106.7 LITE FM's Broadway in Bryant Park 2017' - a lunchtime series on the Bryant Park Stage. Hosted by LITE FM's on-air personalities, the 17th annual presentation of open-air, On- and Off- Broadway lunch hour performances will run through Thursday, August 10.

Spamilton, the comedic musical take on all things Hamilton and Broadway, opened last night at its new home at the 47th Street Theater/The Puerto Rican Traveling Theater. The new theater on 47th Street, which is just a block from its inspiration and main punchline, hosts the show for an open engagement.

The second company completing its residency this spring is Our Voices Theater, presenting the world premiere of Obie Award winner Charles Mee's SOOT AND SPIT, directed by Kim Weild, running now through June 17, 2017. Signature Theatre presents Jesus Christ Superstar, directed by Signature Theatre Director of New Works Joe Calarco (Gypsy, The Flick). With a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber (The Phantom of the Opera, Evita) and Tim Rice (Evita, Chess), featuring 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' and 'Everything's Alright,' Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of Jesus' life in his final week. DRG Records and Spamilton producers John Freedson, Christine Pedi and David Zippel announced that last night the cast of Spamilton, the critically acclaimed parody of Broadway smash Hamilton, by Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandrini, completed recording of the Original Cast album, which will be released on DRG Records in March 2017.
