As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, Thomas Meehan, who is best known for his books of such classics as Annie, The Producers and Hairspray, has passed away at 88 years old.

Producer/Directors Tom and Michael D'Angora were welcomed American Idol and Hairspray alum Diana Degarmo to The Marvelous Wonderettes, whose official opening was Thursday, June 2nd.  For her opening night performance, DeGarmo was joined onstage with a surprise cameo from her husband, former Idol alum and star of Broadway's Hair, Ace Young, as the audience participant, Mr Lee.  The show celebrated with friends and Broadway stars afterwards at Oovina Latin Kitchen and Wine Bar.

The producers of HAIRSPRAY have announced that EastEnders star Lucy Benjamin will join leading man Mark Benton on the show's forthcoming UK tour, which opens at Manchester's Lowry Theatre in February next year. The award-winning York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) hosted its 19th Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre on Monday, November 22, 2010, honoring Tony Award-winning librettist Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray, Elf). The evening was directed by Tony-winning director/lyricist/librettist Richard Maltby and the award was presented by Alice Hammerstein Mathias, daughter of Oscar Hammerstein II.

Broadway stars and Rock stars joined the audience to dance the night away when Rockers on Broadway returned to BB Kings Blues Club last night, November 8th. Directed by Donnie Kehr, ROCKERS ON BROADWAY-Dance Party featured some of the hottest dance tunes from Elvis to GaGa, performed by Broadway stars and the Rock stars who made them famous. The concert benefits Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, Broadway Dreams Foundation, Broadway in South Africa, and The Bendheim Performing Arts Center Scholarship Fund.

Broadway headliners are coming in droves to record the 2010 Broadway's Carols for a Cure, the annual holiday CD benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA). Featured voices include Bernadette Peters and the cast and orchestra from A Little Night Music, Kelsey Grammer, Douglas Hodge, Christine Andreas and the cast of Tony Award winning La Cage aux Folles; Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley, from Next to Normal; plus the casts from Memphis, Wicked, Elf, and In the Heights. Jackie Hoffman and the cast of The Addams Family sing 'It's Chanukah,' a Jackie Hoffman/Lon Hoyt original song written during their time together at Hairspray.

Single tickets are now on sale and range in price from $25 to $92. Family week is September 22 through September 26, during which children's tickets are half off. Directed by Mark S. Hoebee with choreography by Patti Colombo, Peter Pan will run at the Millburn Theater through June 27, 2010. The production will open for the press on June 6. The producers of 'HAIRSPRAY' have announced that Phill Jupitus, Belinda Carlisle and Sharon D Clarke have all signed to join the cast of the hit musical, currently running at London's Shaftesbury Theatre. The new cast open on Monday 26 October, with Sunday performances beginning on Sunday 8 November.

As previously announced, the producers of 'HAIRSPRAY' are delighted to welcome Brian Conley to the role of larger-than-life 'Edna Turnblad' in the hit musical, currently playing at London's Shaftesbury Theatre. Brian is joined by Chloe Hart, taking over as big-haired big-hearted 'Tracy Turnblad' and Liam Tamne as heart-throb 'Link Larkin'. The trio join the production on July 27th.
