Hot off yet another successful, critically acclaimed cross country touring season of'Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack Show,' producer and star Sandy Hackett is in high creative gear preparing to star in another show dear to his heart - 'My Buddy,' an intimate show about his father, legendary comedian and actor Buddy Hackett.

Academy Award, Tony Award and Emmy Award winner Christopher Plummer will star in a Center Theatre Group special event, 'A Word or Two,' written and arranged by Plummer and directed by Tony Award winner Des McAnuff at the CTG/Ahmanson Theatre.

Bob Everhart is the president of the National Traditional Country Music Assn., and has been since 1976. 'We received our 501(c)3 status in 1982 and have been working hard keeping traditional and classic country music alive.' Everhart said. 'Part of that 'genre' of early country music has certainly been Gospel music. It is a stalwart here in the upper Midwest, especially in our rural areas, but it seems to be somewhat diluted in large urban areas. Perhaps that is why we have selected two incredibly deserving individuals for Hall of Fame honors this year.'

ABC Studios had another banner development year with nine new shows ordered to series. New dramas "Betrayal," "Killer Women," "Lucky 7," "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland," "Resurrection," along with new comedies "Trophy Wife" and "Mixology," were picked up at ABC. New drama "Intelligence" was ordered at CBS. ABC Studios had the most drama orders of any studio.

The Metropolitan Opera's 2013-14 season will feature many of the world's greatest singers, conductors, and theater artists in 26 operas, including six new productions, of a varied repertory that ranges from the Baroque era to the 21st century. Met Music Director James Levine will return to the Met podium for the first time in two years, conducting three operas with which he has long been associated: a new production of Verdi's final masterpiece Falstaff, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Berg's Wozzeck. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi will be conducting two operas in the 2013-14 season, Rossini's La Cenerentola and Puccini's Madama Butterfly.

Fort Worth Opera (FWOpera) announced today a call for submissions for its second annual Frontiers new works showcase to be held during the 2014 Fort Worth Opera Festival. A pioneering leader in the production of contemporary opera, FWOpera launched Frontiers in the 2012-2013 season. One of the only programs world-wide designed to seek out unproduced works by up-and-coming composers from North, South, and Central America, the showcase provides composers and librettists a platform by which to gain exposure for their pieces in a live performance environment while also affording them valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals, including artistic directors of opera companies, artist managers, classical music publishers, funding organizations, and conductors.

As 2012 comes to a close, many Austin theater companies are putting together their 2013-2014 season. Given the incredible talent in this town and the large number of daring, courageous theater groups in the Austin area, here are my picks for 13 musicals that I'd love to see produced in the 2013-2014 season.
