On Monday, June 15, 2009 at 8PM, an all-star cast will take to the stage for a one-night-only benefit performance of COME RAIN OR COME SHINE: Celebrating the Songs of Johnny Mercer. The event will take place at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street, in the West Village. All proceeds from the event will benefit GREENWICH HOUSE MUSIC School's music education programs and assist with vital facility upgrades.

Eric Schaeffer, the Artistic Director of Signature Theatre, tonight announced that Signature will honor Stephen Sondheim at a Gala Benefit in April and establish an annual award as a tribute to America's most influential contemporary musical theater composer. Signature will salute Mr. Sondheim at a black-tie Gala Celebration on Monday, April 27, 2009, in Washington, DC highlighted by a musical tribute, festive dinner, and dancing and inaugurate an annual honor to be known in future years as The Sondheim Award.

Foote also received an Academy Award for Writing the Adapted Screenplay for To Kill a Mockingbird in 1962. His original screenplay Tender Mercies won an Academy Award for Writing of Original Screenplay, as well as the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Screenplay. Foote's screenplay for The Trip to Bountiful (1985) garnered him another Academy Award nomination.
