You can tell a great deal about the Nashville theatre community through the productions staged, you can read feature stories and reviews until the cows come home, but to really know what a life in the theatre is all about in Nashville, you have to get to know the people, the personalities who give Music City its dramatic flair. The first person profiled in this series is Brenda Sparks, an accomplished actress, respected director, competent producer and stage manager, wife and mother...Brenda wears a lot of different hats in her day-to-day life and she wears them well.
There was a festive party at the Imperial Theatre after the show on Friday, November 13th with director Stephen Daldry and the Tony Award winning cast of Billy Elliot as they celebrated their one year anniversary. Referred to as an 'irreverent roller coaster ride' by The Reduced Shakespeare Company, The Bible is a hilarious jaunt through the most well known biblical tales. Each member of the three-person cast dons many hats to bring to life the multitude of characters in this vibrant musical comedy. The Bible: The Complete Word of God (Abridged) is an energetic and hysterical compilation that asks the important theological questions: 'Did Adam and Eve have navels? Did Moses really look like Charlton Heston? And why isn't the word 'phonetic' spelled the way it sounds?'
Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, the longest running musical revue in theatre history, is a zany musical spoof of pop culture with extravagant costumes and outrageously huge hats. Now in its 34th year of sold-out performances, Beach Blanket Babylon is an internationally acclaimed San Francisco institution. With more than 12,000 performances in San Francisco, the show has performed for standing room only during its London and Las Vegas engagements.
