THE COLOR PURPLE Returns To The Fox Theater 4/14-4/19

Oprah Winfrey, Scott Sanders and the producing team of the Broadway smash hit THE COLOR PURPLE, The Musical about Love, are proud to announce that the North American Touring production of THE COLOR PURPLE will return by popular demand to the Fox Theatre for eight performances, April 14 through 19. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23! Nominated for eleven Tony Awards?, including Best Musical, THE COLOR PURPLE opened on December 1, 2005 at the Broadway Theatre where it ran for over two record-breaking years. It is based on the classic Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the moving film by Steven Spielberg. It is the unforgettable and inspiring story of a woman named Celie, who finds the strength to triumph over adversity, and discover her unique voice in the world. With a joyous GRAMMY?-nominated score featuring gospel, jazz, pop and the blues, THE COLOR PURPLE is about hope and the healing power of love. Michael Kuchwara, the Associated Press described THE COLOR PURPLE as 'a Roof-Raising story of triumph.' And Richard Corliss of TIME Magazine said, '[it is] a soaring, epic tale. Now going strong it's third, THE AFTER PARTY is billed as 'a weekly schmoozefest for the theatrically inclined.' Tonight Friday, December 12th, they welcome the cast of Prayer For My Enemy, including Tony Award winner Victoria Clark, Tony Award winner Michelle Pawk, Tony Award nominee Jonathan Groff, Skipp Sudduth, Theatre World Award winner Cassie Beck, and Zachary Booth. All will be in attendance and Jonathan Groff and Skip Sudduth will perform. The evening will also feature performances by former Bette Midler 'Harlette' and Hairspray's Charlotte Crossley and The Larry King Orchestra's LARRY KING. All will be on hand to greet fans.

Mayor Gavin Newsom proclaimed 'A WICKED Day in San Francisco,' welcoming the international phenomenon back to the city where it had its world premiere. At a special Homecoming Party in Union Square, WICKED Producer David Stone accepted a proclamation from Luis Cancel, Director of Cultural Affairs for the City and County of San Francisco on behalf of Mayor Newsom. Producer David Stone was in San Francisco for the Homecoming as tickets went on sale for the open-ended engagement of WICKED, which begins performances at the Orpheum Theatre January 27, 2009. He was joined by cast members performing in Union Square for a group of enthusiastic fans.

The Grinch: A (Long) Day in Whoville!

Typically, Broadway shows play eight shows a week with a maximum of two shows a day, usually on Wednesdays and Saturdays. And then there's Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas in its 15-performance-per-week limited holiday engagement. It's hard over in Whoville! No one leaves the theater from morning arrival until after the final curtain has come down.

Each year Acting Up Stage presents One Song Glory: the musicals of today and the stars of tomorrow, an evening of contemporary musical theatre performed by youth under the age of 19. This event showcases up and coming talent, offering them the opportunity free of charge to train with professional directors and musical directors before performing in a downtown theatre in front of an audience that includes casting directors, agents, and producers, who provide helpful tips to the young artists after the show. This year's Gala performance will take place on May 13th, and we are currently looking for talented performers to participate in this year's production.
