Just last night, the Jonathan Larson Grants, given annually to honor emerging composers, lyricists and book writers, were presented to the 2017 recipients: Ben Bonnema, Maggie-Kate Coleman & Erato A. Kremmyda, Ty Defoe & Tidtaya Sinutoke, and Michael R. Jackson. 

The 2017 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to U.S. playwright Clare Barron for her play Dance Nation.  On March 6, New York's Playwrights Horizons hosted a ceremony honoring the winner and finalists of the prize and celebrating the 39th anniversary of the international prize, which is based in Houston.

With spring just around the corner, it means the summer isn't too far behind. And with summer comes free Shakespeare in the parks. Seattle Shakespeare Company's free Wooden O productions for summer 2017 will be Much Ado About Nothing and Pericles. Both shows will start performances on July 6 and will perform in park venues throughout the region through August 6.  The full schedule of venues, dates, and performance times is located on Seattle Shakespeare Company's website.

The 2017/18 Main Series Season includes Harold Pinter's groundbreaking The Caretaker, Branden Jacob-Jenkins' Neighbors, Young Jean Lee's Church, Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece The Skin of Our Teeth, Annie Baker's The Flick, and Sean Graney and Kevin O'Donnell's subversive new adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance, or The Slave of Duty. 

Casting is confirmed and tickets are now on sale for the Signature Theatre world premiere production of The Antipodes, written by Residency Five playwright Annie Baker and directed by Lila Neugebauer.

Playwrights Horizons, under the leadership of Artistic Director Tim Sanford and Managing Director Leslie Marcus, is proud to announce the six productions of its 2017/2018 Season.  The six new works will be presented at the theater company's home at 416 West 42nd Street. 

Multi-award-winning comedy writer, actor and author Miranda Hart will make her West End Theatre debut as Miss Hannigan in Annie opening in the West End in May 2017. Previews at the Piccadilly Theatre will begin on 23 May 2017 with opening night on 5 June 2017. The production, directed by Nikolai Foster, will be produced by Michael Harrison and David Ian. For Hot Couture 2017, The Crucible Founder Michael Sturtz's designed a directed a nine-minute theatrical vignette with hand balancers and contortionists acting out the story of 'The Origin of Love' from 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch,' which involves beings with four legs and four arms, attached back to back-to-back, roaming the Earth.
