BWW Review: MAN OF LA MANCHA Captivates

The Omaha Community Playhouse opens its 2015-2016 season with MAN OF LA MANCHA, the multiple-Tony Award winning musical based on the novel Don Quixote. Written by Dale Wasserman with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, the story tells of Miguel de Cervantes and his imprisonment during the Spanish Inquisition. Cervantes enlists his fellow prisoners into the telling of Don Quixote, knight errant, and his escapades as he fights for valor. I caught the preview last night and I have to warn you-it would be a mistake to miss this one.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2015/2016 season with David Auburn's brilliant contemporary drama Proof, winner of the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This riveting masterpiece tells the still timely tale of a young woman caught in a quest for legitimacy in the male dominated world of high-level science. It is a mystery of family instability and fledgling romance, an exhilarating, funny, and fulfilling tribute to the humanity that permeates our world of equations, equivocations, and codes. Proof will be directed by TheatreWorks Associate Artistic Director Leslie Martinson and features a talented cast including L. Peter Callender, Michelle Beck, Ashley Bryant, and Lance Gardner. The New Detroit Public Theatre to Open This Fall

Two seasoned theatre professionals, one from New York and one a Detroit native, have joined forces to launch the Detroit Public Theatre (DPT). Detroit's newest performing arts institution will open in residence at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in October 2015. The inaugural season of Detroit Public Theatre opens with the Michigan Premiere of the dark comedy, American Hero by Bess Wohl, on October 30, 2015. The line up continues through May 2016 in the Robert A. and Maggie Allessee Rehearsal Hall at the Max with three more productions - including Dominique Morisseau's powerful and timely Detroit '67, and From Broadway to Obscurity, a musical journey by Eric Gutman, a homegrown artist and leading Broadway player.
