The San Diego State University MFA Musical Theatre Program has launched an innovative two-year development program dedicated to fostering the creation of new musicals. The SDSU MFA New Musical Initiative was conceived with the idea of helping musical theatre writers develop a new work through a two-year process including a reading (fall 2018), a workshop (spring 2019) and a full production (spring 2020). After a competitive submission process, which saw over 120 new scripts and scores, the selection committee chose 'Til Death Do Us Part by Bobby Cronin and Caroline Prugh.

What's the story? In this colorful musical, a group of ordinary kids, with all different abilities, take on a mission to save their community, their friendship, and then the planet! Along the way, they learn everyone can be a hero everyday!

Today, dynamic progressive-rock and electro-synth quintet Papadosio proudly release an extensive album comprised of live recordings captured during various performances throughout their fall 2018 Content Coma tour. The 23-track album, Live Selections l Fall 2018, features a mix of live renditions of songs appearing on the band's latest full-length studio album Content Coma (Sept 2018) as well as some older tunes that have been rearranged and reworked to appeal to a live audience. California Repertory Company (CSULB Theatre Arts Department) presents the new play A Live Mixtape written by Long Beach native and CSULB alumna Tahirih Moeller. Tahirih was a student of the award-winning playwright Patricia Loughrey who wrote Dear Harvey, produced by Cal Rep in Fall 2018. It is a particular honor to have both teacher and student produced in the same season!

The Center for Puppetry Arts will introduce Harold and the Purple Crayon to the puppet stage, April 2-May 26. Based on five of the books from Crockett Johnson's beloved series, the original production invites audiences to watch as a curious young boy discovers his power to create anything he can imagine, simply by drawing it with his oversized purple crayon. From enchanted gardens to the circus - even a wild ride to the moon - audiences will watch Harold create his fantastic world in real time on stage.

After the record breaking success of WAM Theatre's fall 2018 production of ANN by Holland Taylor, WAM is thrilled to announce that Arena Stage in Washington, DC, and Dallas Theatre Center are presenting a new co-production of ANN in July and October of this year. WAM's Artistic Director, Kristen van Ginhoven, will again direct the production, and Jayne Atkinson returns to star in the title role.

Dorset Theatre Festival announces its 42nd Season, featuring the classic revival of Noel Coward's Private Lives directed by Evan Yionoulis (June 20 - July 6), the World Premiere of Dig, written and directed by Theresa Rebeck (July 11 - 27), the World Premiere of Mrs. Christie by Heidi Armbruster, directed by Giovanna Sardelli  (August 1 - 17), Slow Food by Wendy MacLeod, directed by Jackson Gay (August 22 - 31), and Pipeline Series: Three New Works in Process (July 2, July 23, and August 13). The Western Connecticut State University Department of Theatre Arts returned last month from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Region 1 competition in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with a multitude of awards, continuing a trend of successful outcomes in the annual, regional competition.

When a musical is as good as the 'Hunchback at Notre Dame' at the Operahouse in Gothenburg it is hard to know where to begin. Anyone I knew who had seen it before has said it is outstanding so my expectations were quite high and everything and more was actually fulfilled.

Continuing with its mission to support Latinx playwrights, the 50 Playwrights Project (50PP) has released its third annual list of recommended unproduced Latinx plays. Dubbed The 50PP List, it is comprised of eight production-ready plays by Latinx playwrights.

Bay Street Theater is pleased to announce the first show of the 2019 Mainstage Season will be the World Premiere of THE PROMPTER (May 28- June 16) a new comedy by Wade Dooley; directed by Scott Schwartz, Bay Street Theater's Artistic Director. The other two previously announced shows will be the World Premiere of SAFE SPACE, which will now run from June 25 - July 21. This new play is by Alan Fox and will be directed by three-time Tony Award Winner Jack O'Brien (All My Sons, Hairspray, The Coast of Utopia). The third show will be a bold new re-envisioning of Irving Berlin's classic musical ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, (July 30 - August 25) with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, book by Herbert & Dorothy Fields. This production will be directed by Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George, Bay Street's Frost/Nixon). The casts and creative teams will be announced soon. On Saturday, February 23, Ars Lyrica Houston surpassed its previous fundraising record at its magical loved-themed A Mid-Winter Night's Dream Gala which also included a surprise wedding! This gala, honoring Dr. Sippi Khurana and chaired by Stephanie von Stein and Dr. Mark A. Schusterman, took place at the modern luxury Hotel Alessandra in downtown Houston. Gala proceeds support Ars Lyrica's biennial Baroque opera productions, which began in Fall 2018 with Handel's Agrippina at the Hobby Center, a production that played to rave reviews.

Juilliard Dance, led by director Alicia Graf Mack, continues its season with Spring Dances, a repertory program featuring Martha Graham's The Rite of Spring, Bill T. Jones' D-Man in the Waters (Part 1); and Alejandro Cerrudo's Little mortal jump.
