Funny girl, singular talent, American icon. Fanny Brice hit stardom in the 1920s and, almost a century later, still inspires the public imagination. On May 3, 4, and 5, Lyrics & Lyricists pays tribute to Fanny with Ziegfeld Girl: The Many Faces of Fanny Brice, a night of songs she put on the Broadway map, led by artistic director Ted Sperling, music director of the smash 2008 Broadway revival of South Pacific. Vocalists Capathia Jenkins, Leslie Kritzer, Faith Prince and Clarke Thorell sing classics like 'Second Hand Rose' and 'My Man'-as well as songs she inspired in Funny Girl. In the exclusive video below, Sperling and Kritzer give a special sneak peek of the show, including clips of a Brice classic- 'My Man'

Billy Joel was a surprise guest April 9, 2014 at Glen Cove's Deasy Elementary School in Long Island, sitting in the audience to watch kindergartners through second-graders perform their spring concert, titled 'The River of Dreams: A Billy Joel Tribute.'

Today, Cutting Edge Composers is thankful for its talented composers, especially Will Reynolds. His song 'I Knew a Boy' was sung by Spring Awakening's Blake Daniel at their concert at the Canal Room. When asked about his inspiration for writing this song, Will said 'The first lyric is 'We sneak by disaster-free courting catastrophe' which basically sums up my experience as a 20-something. 'I Knew a Boy' was a warning to myself when I realized I had let myself get a little too lost.'

This week's CEC feature is by a very talented songwriting team from Canada, Akiva Romer-Segal and Colleen Dauncey. 'It's Been a While' was performed by Wicked's Derek Klena and Next to Normal's Emma Hunton at our CEC concert at NYMF 2012. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

On May 8, The Library of Congress kicked off a series of events honoring Grammy- and Academy-Award-winning songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David, recipients of the 2012 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, culminating a special tribute delivered by President Barack Obama. The prize commemorates George and Ira Gershwin, the legendary American songwriting team whose extensive collection resides in the Library of Congress. Tony Award-winner Diahann Carroll's acclaimed one-woman 'The Lady..The Music..The Legend' will premiere on PBS on Tuesday, September 14 at 8 p.m. on THIRTEEN and Wednesday, September 15 at 8 p.m. on WLIW21. Stage and film actress Anne Hathaway made an appearance in Springfield as Princess Penelope, a new sidekick to Krusty the Clown, on Fox's 'The Simpsons'. In the episode, titled 'Once Upon a Time in Springfield', Hathaway sings 'A Princess Knows,' 'Glitter and Sparkle' and 'Watered with Love'; she also sings a brief part of Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer's classic 'Moon River.'

The American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards® celebration of excellence in the theatre includes recognition of winners and nominees in the 27 competitive categories. The Tony Awards® administrative committee also celebated the honorees for the four non-competitive categories which were presented at the 2009 Tony Awards Sunday, June 7th. The 2009 Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and The American Theatre Wing.
