The Old Globe will open its 2012-13 Winter Season with the World Premiere of Allegiance - A New American Musical. Created by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione with music and lyrics by Kuo, the original musical tells the story of a Japanese American family forced into an internment camp during World War II. Directed by Stafford Arima (Carrie, Altar Boyz, West End premiere of Ragtime), the production features musical direction and arrangements by Lynne Shankel (Cry-Baby, Company) and choreography by Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, Godspell, South Pacific). Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Les Misérables), television and film icon George Takei ('Star Trek,' 'Heroes') and Telly Leung (Godspell, Rent) will star.

BROADWAY BACKWARDS 7, the once-a-year celebration of the gay and lesbian community, raised a record-breaking $329,000 on Monday, March 5, to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. On last night's episode of NBC's CELEBRITY APPRENTICE entitled 'How Much is That Celebrity in the Window?', actor George Takei took on the role of project manager of the men's team, 'Unanimous' while Dayana Mendoza was named project manager of the women's team, 'Forte'. Unfortunately for the men, the project did not go as planned and Takei was ultimately fired by Donald Trump.

The American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact have announced the addition of Golden Globe-winner and Academy and Emmy Award-nominee Brad Pitt to the cast of the West Coast premiere reading of the play '8.' The reading is an unprecedented account of the Federal District Court trial in Perry v. Schwarzenegger (now Perry v. Brown), the case filed by AFER to overturn Proposition 8, which stripped gay and lesbian Californians of the right to marry. Watch the video announcement below.

NBC's new season of the reality series CELEBRITY APPRENTICE will premiere on February 19th at 9/8c. NBC has just released an extended preview of the upcoming season including clips from the show and interviews with the cast.

Telly Leung is currently gearing up for GODSPELL. His other Broadway, national and regional credits include Flower Drum Song, Pacific Overtures, the Chicago sit-down company of Wicked, Sweeney Todd and Allegiance. A native of Brooklyn, Leung is also a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and has continued to branch out to other avenues of the performing arts. With music and lyrics by Jay Kuo (Insignificant Others, Worlds Apart) and book by Kuo and Thione, 'Allegiance' is a family drama that explores love, loss and heroism during the Japanese American confinement in 1942 of approximately 110,000 Japanese nationals and Japanese Americans in no more than 465 cramped barracks in Wyoming.
