For years – for decades, really – I have advocated that Music City tourism would benefit from a sit-down production of a country music-themed musical, one that would appeal to a wide range of aficionados and would showcase the musical library of a beloved figure in the pantheon of Nashville music. Finally, Studio Tenn delivers the perfect vehicle for that with the world premiere production of Here You Come Again, featuring songs written by or recorded by Dolly Parton (the Patron Saint of Tennessee aka The Smoky Mountain Songbird).

Just in time for a new season of productions highlighting the Nashville theater calendar, Belmont University Musical Theatre has chosen the aptly named musical revue Sondheim on Sondheim to launch a two-show semester that honors the genius of the master while showcasing the talents of its roster of musical theater majors who continue to add luster to the program’s reputation.

Sundance Institute, a nonprofit organization that provides and preserves the space for independent artists in film, theatre, and media to create and thrive, and Ucross, a prestigious artist residency program and creative laboratory for the arts, and have announced seven fellows participating in the 21st annual Sundance Institute Artist Residency at Ucross in Wyoming, currently taking place February 3-21, 2020. This year, the retreat was renamed (formerly the Sundance Institute Playwrights & Composers Retreat) to reflect its cross-disciplinary structure.
SHRINES Comes to National Sawdust

Irish Arts Center, the multidisciplinary center dedicated to bringing people of all backgrounds together through the excellence and dynamism of Irish arts and culture, co-presents Shrines (Carrie Erving) with National Sawdust at National Sawdust on Wednesday, February 19. Shrines - the moniker for Brooklyn-based singer, composer and musician Carrie Erving - mixes dance and visual design elements with ethereal vocals, string arrangements, synth drones, and electronic flourishes in an evening of original songs from her debut EP, Release, produced by Rosana Cabán (of Psychic Twin). The EP draws on influences from her eclectic background in opera, rock, Irish folk, and electronic music. She'll also perform selections from her forthcoming album Our Ship is Ready, a collection of reimagined songs from the Irish Sean-nós song tradition. Shrines has drawn comparisons to Sylvan Esso, Björk, and Sinead O'Connor.
